We found these working hard to come up between concrete pavers two years ago. For the past two years, it's only grown a single bloom. This year, there are quite a few.

WHITE MOUNTAINS, NH: October 9, 2006. Mountian moss and plant life finds a niche in a cliff face at Sabbaday Falls along the Kancamangus Highway. Called the Kanc' for short, this scenic route is a favorite of leaf peepers.

Tenacity on the part of the plant and the gardener. It took 4 years but finally a bloom. This was an indoor hydrangae that we transferred to the wilds of our backyard.

 

We were told it may not make it as an outdoor plant but it has, sheer tenacity!
