Team Canada - Celebration of Light Vancouver. This time I set up at Vanier Park to enjoy the show. Tonight had less wind than previous Brazil exhibition so there was a lot of heavy smoke in no time. Despite the smokiness, it was another awesome fireworks display in English Bay enjoyed by thousands.
The iconic Toronto sign that has been sitting in front of city hall in Toronto has been moved only a few feet away but it will never look quite the same as it does in front of the water fountain at city hall.

Celebration of Light - Team Canada gave the last show this year in spectacular fashion. My vantage point to the fireworks this time was from a rooftop close to English Bay Beach. Best seats in the house.
Snowbirds
Officially known as the Canadian Forces 431 Air Demonstration Squadron.
The Snowbirds are Canada's military aerobatics or air show flight demonstration team whose purpose is to "demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and teamwork of Canadian Forces personnel.
The show team flies 11 CT-114 Tutors—NINE for aerobatic performances, including two solo aircraft, and two as spares, flown by the team coordinators.

Team Canada - Honda Celebration of Light Vancouver. This night drew that largest crowds as according to the Vancouver Police, over 400,000 people showed up to see the fireworks display. It was quite the spectacle leading up to the event. Huge crowds, hundreds of boats entering English Bay, Drones, and an impromptu air acrobatic demonstration.

I remember watching that game as a kid! All schools in Canada were gathered in the gyms to watch the game Live ,instead of doing our school work. We screamed and shouted and cried when Canada's Paul Henderson scored the winning goal to win the series!!!!
It still tugs on my heart strings to watch that goal!

From far and wide, millions and millions of people (it seemed) came out to watch #TeamCanada display their skills at pyrotechnics. They definitely pulled out all the stops with a massive barrage of explosives. On the far right, you can see English Bay Beach to Sunset Beach, packed with spectators. The three players drafted ahead of Steve Yzerman in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft were Brian Lawton, who was selected first overall, Sylvain Turgeon, taken second, and Pat LaFontaine, chosen third. Yzerman was selected fourth overall by the Detroit Red Wings.

Steve Yzerman - Stephen Gregory Yzerman (born May 9, 1965) is a Canadian former professional hockey player currently serving as executive vice president and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he spent all 22 seasons of his NHL playing career. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he is a Detroit sports icon and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. After his retirement as a player, he served in the front office of the Red Wings, and then as general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, while also being executive director for Team Canada in two Olympics.
Prior to the 1986–87 season, at age 21, Yzerman was named captain of the Red Wings and continuously served for the next two decades (dressing as captain for over 1,300 games), retiring as the longest-serving captain of any team in North American major league sports history. Once voted to be the most popular athlete in Detroit sports history, locals often simply refer to Yzerman as "Stevie Y", "Stevie Wonder", or "The Captain". Yzerman led the Wings to five first-place regular season finishes and three Stanley Cup championships (1997, 1998 and 2002). He retired in 2006 amongst the NHL leaders in total career points and went on to a further career in NHL and international management.
Yzerman won numerous awards during his career, including the Lester B. Pearson Award (Most outstanding player) in the 1988–89 season, the Conn Smythe Trophy (Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup playoffs) in 1998, the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward in 2000 and the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance in 2003. He played in ten All-Star Games, and was a first team All-Star in 2000 and a member of the All-Rookie Team in 1984.
Yzerman has represented his country in several international tournaments as a member of Canada's national hockey team (Team Canada). In 2002, Yzerman won an Olympic gold medal, making him one of few players to win an Olympic gold medal and the Stanley Cup in the same year. Yzerman was the general manager of Team Canada for the 2007 IIHF World Championship, which they won. Yzerman was appointed executive director of Team Canada on October 7, 2008, for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Team Canada went on to win the gold medal by defeating the United States. Yzerman was again appointed executive director of Team Canada on March 5, 2012, for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Canada went on to win their second-straight gold medal after defeating Sweden. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2014.
