Assorted alcohol on a bar top, tip jar (glass)included. Captured at a Tattoo convention, Trinidad and Tobago, yes i got wasted right after ... lol

When I picked up the book “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson, I have always imagined the tattoo on Lisbeth Salander (the main character) to be something similar to what is depicted here: a grand gesture of a flying dragon covering every inch of the girl’s back. But then the movie came out and it somewhat shattered my expectations.

I suppose my imagination of what a dragon tattoo should be is deeply influenced by my Chinese upbringing. These are the kind of dragon tattoos which I am used to seeing. I probably would not have the courage to photograph anyone on the street with dragon tattoos — although not necessarily related to gangs, these motifs are somewhat common among gang members depicted in HK movies so they give me creeps.

So it is good then that this was a tattoo con and no one would shoo me away…

Whilst at work at Tattoo Con This Happened.

The rooftop of this Buddhist temple features intricate details of dragons painted in vibrant colors. These figures are traditionally used to decorate Chinese imperial roof tops, and it shows influence here towards temple designs. In historic China, the color yellow and the dragon figure is reserved for the emperors only. Here in Taiwan, such restriction obviously does not apply.

A tattoo convention—the first of its kind—was recently held in Hong Kong. Tattoo is traditionally much of a taboo in Chinese culture, so I went to check it out.

This image captures the spirit of the event best. Unlike many conventions which have sales people talking non-stop, this convention is mostly silent, with men (and women) lying down patiently waiting for skilled tattooist to needle ink onto their skin while the artists patiently wait for the work to proceed while layers of skin heals over the entirety of the day.

Most of the photographs I have taken from this day was made possible mostly because of the excellent low-light high ISO performance of the 6D combined with the super 100-400 which allows me to photograph people from afar without alerting their attention.

The event was held at the InnoCentre in Kowloon Tong from October 4-6, 2013. www.hktattoocon.com/

Remove unwanted tattoos and put past memories where they should be – in the past…

Fade tattoos in little as a few weeks without the pain and expense of laser tattoo removal…

Without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars over months or years of laser sessions!

Of these techniques sound new to you, you should know that many of them are as old as tattoos themselves! After all, our ancestors from 2,000 years ago didn't want to mark their bodies forever. So as they came up with the ink, they came up with the removal methods as well.

The modern ingredients we find at the grocery store are both safe and highly effective for helping flush out unwanted skin ink.

For the full story on laserless tattoo removal, see my page here which talks all about the process and my laserless tattoo removal guide

It's time to put that unwanted tattoo behind you, and move on with your life.

These Chinese imperial roof decorations were seen at the 慈誠宮 Cíchéng Gōng (lit: “Temple of Compassion and Sincerity”). Although the temple was built in 1796, the color of the figures remain vibrant and theirs details demonstrate expert craftsmanship.

Two competing guilds of woodcarvers were invited to work at the temple, which might reason why the wood carves look particularly daring and intricate. It is considered a “Level-3 Historic Site” (三級古蹟) in Taiwan.
