The original Tappen Zee Bridge was built in 1955 where Interstate 87 flowed over north to Albany and straight on to the Canadian border towards Montreal. However by the ninety eighties it was already obsolete in design in that it was too narrow to handle the contemporary traffic flow. By the nineties negligence and the elements forced the state to spend huge amounts on money just to keep it safely repaired and there were was strong pressure to have a new bridge replaced it. Finally after literally decades of political and financial haggling the new replacement bridge shown above opened up for service with two extra lanes for traffic and considered vastly more visually pleasing in design compared to the old bridge was considered by many an eyesore and named after Governor Mario Coumo who initiated the moves to have a new bridge built while the old bridge which was dynamited and sold for scrap.

Modica è una stupenda città barocca situata in Sicilia ed è una delle tappe maggiormente visitate dai turisti.
Molto meno quelli purtroppo che ne hanno visitato la stazione, un'autentica perla architettonica incastonata tra montagna e città .
Nei recentissimi mesi ha avuto delle importanti modifiche infrastrutturali ma due anni fa era quasi ancora originale dopo più di 100 anni.
Fra i fabbricati di servizio e il vecchio deposito trova posto la galleria che sottopassa la città e fa proseguire la linea verso Ragusa, Gela e Caltanissetta Xirbi.
In un contesto molto vintage da vecchia ferrovia la ALn668.3229 parte dal binario 1 dirigendosi in galleria come regionale Siracusa-Gela.

Qualche volta non diamo il giusto peso alle cose più scontate.
Mi sono fermato un giorno ad osservare il tappo di scarico del lavandino e lo trovato adatto ad uno scatto minimalista.

Porto - Stazione di Sao Bento
Porto doveva essere l'ultima tappa del nostro viaggio in Portogallo, ma l'impressione che questa città ha lasciato su di noi ha fatto sì che un giorno fosse sufficiente per visitare quello che ci eravamo programmate. L'ultimo giorno siamo "fuggite" verso una meta che avevamo lasciato come secondaria, pur di non restare lì!
Mi è evidente che Porto mostra diversissime facce di sé, a seconda di chi lo guarda. Avevo sentito e letto bellissime cose, visto foto meravigliose, immaginato il suo fascino. A me (ma anche a mia mamma allo stesso modo) ha lasciato molto amaro in bocca. Chissà , sarà che l'abbiamo visitata in un giorno di pioggia, sarà che l'hotel in cui abbiamo alloggiato era ai limiti della decenza, sarà un sacco di altre cose, ma ai nostri occhi sono balzate la sporcizia, il degrado, la trascuratezza ad ogni angolo, del centro come della periferia. L'unica zona da cui secondo me Porto può avere il suo fascino è al di là del fiume, il Douro, dalla cittadina di Vila Nova de Gaia, la patria indiscussa delle più celebri cantine di porto del Portogallo. Però, se per ammirare il fascino di una città la si deve guardare dalla distanza, questo secondo me non è abbastanza per ritenerla una bella città . E lo stesso potrei dire di Coimbra, tanto decantata sui testi, ma che mi ha delusa moltissimo per il suo stato di abbandono.
