Cette espèce se rencontre dans le Centre-Nord-Ouest et dans le Nord-Ouest du Brésil, on la retrouve également dans l'extrême Sud-Est du Pérou et dans l'extrême nord de la Bolivie. Le Tamarin labié a le manteau et la nuque d'apparence sombre. L'arrière-corps est suffusé de gris argenté et le dessous est d’un rouge brillant. La queue est complètement noire sauf au-dessous de la base roux ou orangé. Les lèvres et le nez sont couverts de poils blancs qui se détachent sur la face noire. Une raie pâle parcourt également le bas de l’oreille.

Hiking along the Tamarin Falls or 7 Cascades waterfalls in Mauritius is not the easiest hike, but you will be rewarded with views like this one. With a little bit of hiking experience at least the first 4 cascades should be possible without a guide.
Un des deux bébés de Miska, nés le 24 avril à la Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes, Paris. Un très heureux évènement puisque la reproduction de ce petit primate en captivité est rare et qu'il reste "en danger" en milieu naturel.
Il ne reste plus que 8% de la forêt (chilienne) originelle de l'espèce. Longtemps chassés pour en faire des animaux de compagnie ou de laboratoire, le trafic animalier reste une sérieuse menace : au marché noir, un tamarin-lion doré se revend entre 5 000 et 10 000 €. D'où aussi les vols commis dans les zoos, plus faciles et moins dangereux que d'aller capturer ces petits singes dans leur forêt.

Le Tamarin bicolore peuple le Nord du Brésil, au nord de l’Amazone. Le corps mesure de 21 à 28 cm, la queue de 34 à 42 cm pour un poids voisin des 430 g. L' espèce est considérée par l'UICN en danger, principalement du fait de la destruction de son habitat.
Cotton-top Tamarin
The cotton-top tamarin (Saguinus oedipus) is a small New World monkey weighing less than 0.5 kg (1.1 lb). This New World monkey can live up to 24 years, but most of them die by 13 years. One of the smallest primates, the cotton-top tamarin is easily recognized by the long, white sagittal crest extending from its forehead to its shoulders. The species is found in tropical forest edges and secondary forests in northwestern Colombia, where it is arboreal and diurnal. Its diet includes insects and plant exudates, and it is an important seed disperser in the tropical ecosystem.
The golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas), also the golden-headed tamarin, is a lion tamarin endemic to Brazil. It is found only in the lowland and premontane tropical forest fragments in the state of Bahia, and therefore is considered to be an endangered species. It lives at heights of 3–10 metres (9.8–32.8 ft). Its preferred habitat is within mature forest, but with habitat destruction this is not always the case. Several sources seem to have different information on the number of individuals within a group, and the type of social system that may be apparent. The golden-headed lion tamarin lives within group sizes ranging from 2 to 11 individuals, with the average size ranging from 4 to 7. According to various sources, the group may consist of two adult males, one adult female, and any immature individuals, one male and one female and any immature individuals, or there may be one producing pair and a varying number of other group members, usually offspring from previous generations. There is not much known on its mating system, but according to different sources, and information on the possible social groups, it can be assumed that some may practice monogamous mating systems, and some may practice polyandrous mating systems. Both males and females invest energy in caring for the young, and all members of the group also help with juvenile care.

Apenheul Primate Park is a zoo in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. It specializes in apes and monkeys. It opened in 1971 and was the first zoo in the world where monkeys could walk around freely in the forest and between the visitors. It started with just a few species, now it displays more than 30 different primates, among them bonobo, gorilla and orangutan.

I know my little corner of flickr says "wildlife" but I moved to a new town and the Brevard Zoo is close by. I wanted to test my new camera body and these endangered monkeys look pretty cool.

Alimentation: frugivore, insectivore, exsudativore. Comportement: diurne, arboricole, quadrupède. Très agile, court et saute de branche en branche comme un bolide. Il parcourt chaque jour 1,4km, évolue entre 15 et 30 m au-dessus du sol en petits gangs frénétiques, se cache et se repose plusieurs heures par jour dans les enchevêtrements de lianes, avant de s’endormir en groupe compact dans les grands arbres isolés.
