Been to the Peacock park in Taiwan and hopefully can see them fan out the feathers - no such luck.

Gaomei was called Gaomi in the Qing Dynasty and was renamed during the Japanese occupation. The wetlands here are over 300 hectares, but the area is only 1/10 of Dadu River wetlands. The geography is divided into 7 categories, which results in diversified organisms in this area. Gaomei Wetlands is one of the few places that has wild ducks.

Despite the small area, Gaomei Wetlands have special soils mixed with mud and sand. Ecology here breeds diversified organisms of both plants and animals. Research shows that animals here include birds, fishes, crabs and invertebrates.

I sat on the narrow and shaded dry streambed that day, and there are many Arhopala japonica flying by from upstream, one by one. Some of them stopped in front of me and basked. However, they are all so sensitive, and I cound not approach nearer.

Arhopala japonica is a common oakblue in Taiwan. This is a female.

Water buffalo and oxen are now rarely seen in Taiwan plowing rice fields. An article in the March 06, 2017 Taipei Times said that there were about 99 water buffaloes in use in Taiwan in 2015. (www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2017/03/06/20036...) Now, big tractors are commonly seen in the fields of Taiwan. This ox was plowing a rice field near Shueilin Township in Yunlin County, Taiwan.
