Vintage Poole Pottery, at the Poole Pottery shop on Poole Quay

Here are all of my Emerald Band tableware. The largest one in the back is Fire King, the rest are Corning/Pyrex. They are all different sizes.

Found these little beauties yesterday while thrifting. I think they were meant to have a gold rim. Just a little bit left on one of them. I don't really like the whole gilded thing anyway, so no big deal to me!

Base stamped "665" and "1" Made in England.

I have been creating these pieces for an art festival in Atlanta, Georgia but you can also find them in my etsy shop at www.joyelizabethceramics.etsy.com

my home,

couldn't resist to shoot this, the light was just nice

My last complete piece from the kiln in March before COVID. I experimented with some glazes using black clay, and it turned out beautiful. I love the stardust in the rim and the Milky Way on the inside.

What is a Wager Cup?

Pronounced ‘way-jer’ cup

Created in the sixteenth century, and originating in Germany, the wager cup is a double cup in the form of a female in an upright position holding a cup (sometimes swinging) above her head. These drinking vessels were usually created in the female form, although gents can often be used when pairs are created. The wager cups are often crafted from silver, with the wide skirt forming one cup and, more obviously, the cup held above the figure’s head is the second cup.

Using a Wager Cup

wager cups

The silver or gold wager cup was originally created for use at wedding banquets – hence the alternative name of ‘marriage cup’ or ‘wedding cup. The groom would drink from the larger cup, (this cup is created by the lady’s voluminous skirt - in this case an Elizabethan skirt), and the bride would drink from the smaller cup (the one held above the figure’s head) – the intention being for both the bride and groom to empty the cups without letting a drop spill! So steady hands were required.

A design for one of the walls of the Estruscan dressing room at Osterley Park by Robert Adam.

Osterley Park is a large park and one of the largest open spaces in London. In its grounds, there is a large mansion which is often referred to as 'Osterley House'. The park lies between Osterley, Isleworth; Heston, Hounslow; Norwood Green, Southall, Hanwell, Ealing and Brentford, in the London Boroughs of Hounslow and Ealing. It is operated by the National trust.

When the house was built it was surrounded by countryside. It was one of a group of large houses close to London which served as country retreats for wealthy families. Other surviving country retreats of this type near London include Syon House and Chiswick House. wikipedia

Katie's table settings were simple and elegant. Lace doilies (from her mom!) would be placed on the wooden board underneath her signature drink glasses. Understated and lovely.
