The method of chance has been integral to each of my collages; it has come to be nicknamed “pick magic.” Carefully cut pieces are picked and matched with backgrounds without looking at either. The collage then goes back into rotation until it is finished, it may take a day or several years.
The Dadaist’s, particularly Jean Arp, pioneered this idea of chance in collage. He believed chance introduced an imbalance and immediacy that restored a work’s mysterious vitality and its primeval magic power.
I have found through this method, correlations and patterns I wouldn’t have discovered on my own, making the experience of creation far more exciting. You begin developing a dialogue between yourself and your subconscious, rich with humour, surprises and insight.
This original collage is mounted on a 6”x6” ceramic tile and is coated with a shellac sealer. It adds interest to empty nooks and looks great grouped together. Mix and match your favourite colors to accent any room. It is ready to hang with no framing required.

My first go at using a graphic tablet, it took a very long time to complete, but when you use a completly new technique there is simply no point in rushing into it.
It's all about trial and error.

HENRY REED
Listeners to the Third Programme have for many years been acquainted with Henry Reed's record of the researches of Herbert Reeve into the the life of Richard Shewin the novelist. They have followed Reeve’s exploration of tributaries and backwaters in his search for the sources which fed the estuary of Shewin's talent. They know that the way of the biographer was not easy — too often he had to see his subject through the eyes of others, and disentangle conflicting testimony. Indeed sometimes Reeve’s subject seems to recede and grow misty, as each new revelation clouds the sharper vision of received opinion.
Yet the rewards of this research both for Reeve and for us were great. There was the sharp awareness we gained of the mutability of truth,and there were the travellers we met along the way. Among that number none remains more firmly in our memory than Miss Hilda Tablet, the composeress. The splendid portrait Henry Reed give us of Miss Tablet, in his chronicle of Herbert Reeve's biographical enquiries, makes it clear why Mr Reeve should have set aside for a while his work on Shewn to embrace a living subject.
This book preserves in print four pieces from what many regard as the funniest and most sustained piece of social comedy written for radio. They are A Very Great Man Indeed, The Private Life of Hilda Tablet, A Hedge, backwards, and The Primal Scene, as it were.
