These tablets are the oldest surviving examples of handwriting in Britain, and were found on the site of the Vindolanda Roman fort in Northeast England. There are hundreds of fragments altogether, written on thin pieces of wood. They date from about 100AD.
This particular one is a birthday invitation, written by a woman asking her friend to a party.
"Claudia Severa to her Lepidina greetings. On 11 September, sister, for the day of the celebration of my birthday, I give you a warm invitation to make sure that you come to us, to make the day more enjoyable for me by your arrival, if you are present (?). Give my greetings to your Cerialis. My Aelius and my little son send him (?) their greetings.
(Second hand) I shall expect you, sister. Farewell, sister, my dearest soul, as I hope to prosper, and hail. "

This is a photograph from the 3rd round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 21st May 2014 at 20:00. This is the penultimate race in the 2014 series. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 350 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was the best yet with beautiful warm sunshine with little or no breeze. Perfect running conditions. The final round of the league will take place in one weeks time.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. This memorial shrine, as this tablet explains, was dedicated to the 577 members of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish of East Orange, New Jersey, a parish that no longer exists due to changes in that city's demographics, who fought in World War II.
Of the 577 men and women from that church who fought in the Second World War, only fourteen died, a miraculous survival record. Ironically, the parish itself closed as its mainly white parishoners moved farther away from nearby Newark and mostly Protestant blacks moved in. East Orange, New Jersey is now one of the most overwhlemingly black cities in America.
The shrine was moved out of its original location and moved to its current location in Caldwell.
The shrine was rededicated there in 1999.
Memorial tablet to Richard Nash (d.1690) along with his son Richard and wife Mary. Mounted on the north side of the chancel at St Peter's, Droitwich.
It took me a while to find St Peter's as it lies in a quiet part of Droitwich's suburbs but it was worth the deviation.
The exterior is very picturesque, with transepts and newly rendered chancel and evidence of vanished south aisle. Inside it was so dark it took some time for me to adjust, though the small chancel glowed thanks to a dormer window. The nave ceiling is late medieval, flat and panelled with foliate bosses, and sits on an unusual timber-framed clerestorey. There are good fragments of 14th century glass in the south transept and a large Elizabethan monument with a reclining effigy.

The finished silk trim, removed from the loom. The piece is just over 3 yards long (about 3 metres) and the width is 1 cm (about 3/8 inch). It was woven on 18 cards and given as largesse by HRH Aiden ap Grendal at July Coronation, An Tir.

I decided to take a picture of my black bamboo fun wacom tablet for the camouflage image. I adjusted the levels with photoshop to make it look darker.
