I found the tableau project very fun and challenging at the same time. The Tableau genre is so interesting because with a simple zoom and change of the camera angle, you can turn miniature things into life size ones. This project allows the photographer to not just shoot what is obvious and waiting to be filmed, but create a new setting and imagine a whole new world. You have to have fun with it and take the time to dream something up in your head.
This weekend we had three beautiful sun shiny days. The abundant sunshine made it easier to do this project, unlike others where I had to wait for sunny days. My Tableau-1 photograph was inspired by the quote “Midway on our life’s journey, I found myself in dark woods, the right road lost. To tell about those woods is hard – so tangled and rough.” This is a very deep thought. When I read this it makes me wonder whether the speaker meant this literally or metaphorically. I created this scene in the yard where the sun shined though the trees. The sun ahead at about 2:00pm in the afternoon gave me enough light to get the shot while the trees shadowed some spots to make it a darker photo as talk of in the quote. I have always enjoyed the movie “Honey, I shrunk the kids” and I want to somewhat re-inact this scene by using the tall grass as the forest. I unfortunately don’t have any kids so I was very limited with my figurines as subjects. The neighbor has a grandchild who had this McDonald’s toy laying around. I thought it would make an interesting shot. The focus is on my subject with a few blades of grass in the foreground. The lighting in the front of the picture is spectacular while creating a darker image in the background. I can picture my subject lost in the woods as well as lost in life, not knowing what path to choose in the forest or decision to make in life. The grass is tangled as quoted, and the subject appears as he is embarked on a journey.
When I was 12 my mom bought me a horse. His name was Shorty. We kept him on my aunt’s farm on the Indiana/Michigan stateline. He was a morgan horse and he was ornery as ever. He was brown with a black mane. He bucked me off several times and would take off cantering on his own with me on his back. For this reason I love horses. Shorty and the following quote was my inspiration to this shot. “No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.” ~Winston Churchhill I was limited with my props I took a trip to the dollar store and found this toy horse for $1.50. I imagined riding this horse in the blue summer sky on my aunt’s farm, with the blue sky above and the dirt fields below. I took an interesting angle from underneath the horse to make it appear large and life like. I took extra caution to not get any life size trees in the background of the photo that may make the toy look it’s actual size. The sky in the background is so blue it is almost fake. The stirrups and red saddle blanket look so real. The fur and mane seem to glisten in the sunlight just as a real horse would. The shadow on his neck from the bridal also makes him appear real. I have an issue with my camera putting lines through most of my photos. I haven’t been able to fix the problem. I believe it is from a certain memory card.
I had a great time shooting this project. The weather cooperated nicely and I felt I learned so much about the tableau genre. I had so many other pictures to choose from and wish I could have submitted them all. I took some interesting photos of a Barbie I got from Dollar General for .50, which made it all the more fun. I am starting to get a feel for my camera and progressing slowly.
I think that many women will be pleased to read this!

Ik denk dat veel vrouwen dit wel kunnen waarderen!
Gezien in een plantenwinkel, maar die hebben natuurlijk alleen maar verstand van planten. LoL

Calvary is mentioned in the Bible as a hill, the place of the skull, Golgotha. Artists throughout history have strived to depict Jesus’ Crucifixion on Calvary in an attempt to bring to life one of the most famous moments in the Bible. Calvary scenes have appeared in cave art in Mona Island off the coast of Puerto Rico; in mosaic in the 4th century Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem; in many paintings of Brueghel, Rubens, Delacroix, et al.; in relleves or wood relief carved by early Christians in the Philippines; and in many other forms and mediums. In Spanish-era Philippines, the most affluent families would commission a tableau using very expensive ivory for the images, and then enshrine them in an elaborate wooden niche or urna placed on top of the home altar for veneration.
In this magnificent Calvary tableau, the Expirante Corpus or Expiring Christ in solid ivory, is captured in his last breaths, his head bowed in near collapse and face in dignified agony, his muscles tensed, and fingers twitching with varying degrees of flexion failure. His bleeding wounds incite pity and humility. St. John the Evangelist, Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene are below the Cross, their faces in deep anguish. Their heads and hands are in ivory. All the ivory pieces have remained white, having been kept perpetually in glass. The Cross is in kamagong with lanite border inlays. The Cross mound and parts of the floor are blanketed with iridescent green wings and black bodies of salaguinto or green scarab jewel beetles found in the vast rice fields of central Luzon. The scarabs, the family to which the salaguinto beetle belongs, were revered by ancient Egyptians as a symbol of the Resurrection and the enduring human soul. The accoutrements on the figures, Cross, mound, and loin cover are 24k gold-filled silver painstakingly etched in early ysot technique. The lustrous glass backdrop is gilt in gold to simulate richly decorated brocade fabrics. Other smaller figures, vegetation, animals and objects in blown glass and shells surround the protagonists, and interestingly, there’s a glass fish pond in front. The huge Neoclassical-style urna is made from highly prized kamagong wood with a sunburst topper centring a round rosette finished in gold leaf. The lavish use of gold color makes this richly decorated tableau shine gloriously despite the somber subject. Very well-thought composition and masterfully executed.
The tableau was brought from Manila to Iloilo by the Apilañes family, owner of La Editorial Press, who lived in a house in Calle Sto. Rosario, which at the end of the 19th century became known as a residential area for upper class families. After the Second World War, the house – together with this Calvary tableau – was bought by Francisca Guidato Maravilla. Calle Rosario is one of the oldest and most historical avenues in the city of Iloilo, and has the most number of preserved heritage buildings in the whole province.
Provenance: Mrs. Francisca Guidato Maravilla of Calle Santo Rosario, Iloilo City
So last night, I cleaned my room and made sure all the clutter was pretty stuff,
like the painting of Lilith that Cat did, and the Paddington Bear that my biffle brought back from London for the dollies and I, and the maneki neko bank I bought the first time I went to NYC.
Instead of, you know.
piles of crap and papers.
:'D
And then I fell down and sprained my foot so badly that everyone in the ER was in awe that I didn't break anything :Db
