I'm working on 4 hrs of scanned Single-8 8mm homemovies. Putting these in chronological order and finally color correct them. The original Eumig Double-8 C3 that was used to shoot all the material with, was recently found, and I thought it was nice to shoot some tabletop packshot sort of footage for the DVD menu. Unfortunately I don't have any nice rotating discs, no fill lights, no nothing. Just some cardboard and large pieces of black and white paper which I used for fill and background. I also used my trusty Technics turntable to give the camera a motorized spin. Mounted the Eumig to my Gorillapod and stuck the filt from the turntable in between. I used
daylight from the window to light the camera.
Most of the footage came out unusable, as the black background wasn't black but grey, almost as grey as the camera itself in some shots.
So next time I should overexpose the camera, make sure no light falls on the background, and then turn the exposure on the DV camera down. And find me some black drapes. And a turntable that will run way below 33rpm. And and and..
