T&N was the Lone Star Steel company plant railroad that interchanged with the KCS at Dangerfield, TX. Lone Star Steel was acquired by U.S. Steel in 2007 and the plant was closed in 2016.
This chopped nose Alco RS1 was originally a GM&O unit, one of 5 acquired by the RR.

From the Texas State Historical Association on Ridge, TX - "formerly known as Holly Springs, is on U.S. Highway 79 and the Missouri Pacific line in extreme east central Robertson County. The community of Holly Springs developed there in the late 1850s to supply the cotton farmers of the surrounding prairie. Around 1900 cotton prices tumbled, and the community was forced to diversify into watermelons, turkey farming, sawmills, and brickyards."
Forty years ago, MP train DFZ is topping the short hill departing Marshall, TX. A common sight of this time was seeing the r-o-w cleared for the installation of fiber optic cable.

The dry mix of Douglas fir, arbutus, and Garry oak ecosystem makes for good white fawn lily habitat. These flowers prefer dry open forests and meadows and they are plentiful on the more open west side of the Vancouver Island. Welcome to Grapetown, near Fredricksburg and Luckenbach. Mom said "let's go check out Grapetown." I'm all, where's that?! Well, here it is. There are 2 more buildings, a large barn for parties/dances etc and an old tiny school house. If you blink, you'll miss Grapetown, TX.
Another shot from September 29, 1979 when I rode the Houston section of the Lone Star up to Temple. Temple was an important place for the Gulf Coast & Santa Fe. The slick station in the background here served as the division headquarters and it was a major junction with lines from the southeast (Galveston and Houston), the north (Ft Worth), and the northwest (Sweetwater, Lubbock, and eventually the Transcon) joining here. This set of power is on the engine shop lead. Chop nosed GP7, F7B, and a high hood GP7, wild lashups you could see on the Santa Fe in the late 70’s.
Located in South West TX on the NM border. It is 90 miles east of EL Paso. The Guadalupe Mountains National Park is in the Left part of the mountains in the picture. One of the least visited parks. It is all hiking and primitive camping. There are no roads in the park. On the extreme left is Guadalupe Mountain. It is 8,751 ft. high and is the highest peak in Texas.
