On the way back from Ireland a few weeks ago I stopped over in Anglesey for a night in order to make an early morning, low tide visit to Ynys Llanddwyn and its famous and much-photographed lighthouse. I was reasonably lucky with the weather. The Thrift was only just coming into flower in small patches. The only way I could get the foreground colour in frame was to place the camera a matter of centimetres away from it so I had to sacrifice foreground focus to get the lighthouse reasonably sharp.
A final posting from a series of images taken during a visit a couple of weeks ago to this famous location on Anglesey. I took this one whilst waiting for the sun to break through. The sky was constantly changing as the clouds slowly cleared. I processed at mono to accentuate the sense of drama in the sky.
Second of the two shots, this one after the Sun had set and the colours started to mute and show it at its best. The 'classic' view of this fabulous location, I was with 4 other photographers and 6 more scattered around - one tip if you're considering this location on Anglesey....get there early!
I have just spent a couple of days with my sister who I went to North Wales with back in March.
We were saying what a brilliant trip it was and I think this, the last afternoon, was the highlight. It went from flat light to too much light really. Part of the mound below the lighthouse looked washed out (on every shot) as if there was a big smudge on my polariser, although on inspection it was perfectly clean. So I had to do a bit of cleaning up, hopefully it looks OK.
What a place!!

This was probably my favourite spot in the whole weekend I was there, it was a place I'd wanted to visit for a long time and we had a really great evening there.
The lighthouse was built in 1873 and is designed in the style characteristic of Anglesey windmills.

LLanddwyn Island on Anglesey North Wales is the home of the Two Mawr (meaning big tower) lighthouse. Built in 1845 I believe. Standing 35 feet tall the on top a rocky peninsula it could be seen some 7 miles away. The island is tidal and juts out to sea on the north west edge of Llanddwyn beach.

On the Saturday of my North Wales trip, I spent the day on the Isle of Anglesey shooting its various lighthouses.
I visited Penmon, South Stack and Twr Mawr. It was a sunny day which wasn't ideal for photography but in the evening there was a good chance of some colour at sunset.
I've wanted to shoot this lighthouse for such a long time and after meeting up with Danny Astro Kenealy and Gareth Mon Jones we took the long walk through the woods to the lighthouse. There were about 20 photographers up there that evening but getting in a prime spot I managed to get the shot I was after.
In the end, the sunset was good but not fantastic so I've processed one of my earlier shots from the evening where the side light from the sun lit up the rocks in the foreground.

On Tuesday we headed over to Anglesey to visit Ynys Llanddwyn and the gorgeous little lighthouse there.
I’d been here for sunset on my first visit in April and this visit was a lot more moodier.
I took a few shots of the classic view then went for a wander, using the grass as foreground interest I did a two minute exposure to get some movement in the clouds. We had a good few hours here and I’ll post another shot at a later date.

This was the product of a long wait hoping for a some nice light. It eventually come after a couple of hours and lasted for at least 2 minutes.

Waves crashing on rocks below the lighthouse on Llanddwyn Island, North Wales. I managed to get a few shots before falling off the rock and getting my feet wet with an incoming wave.
What an absolutely stunning place. image could be sharper, was blowing quite a gale, hard to keep the camera steady.
