L' ASTRONAVE DODGE DURANGO SLT

Oltre 2000, visitando mezzo Yucatan.

Struggled to get a decent night shot as difficult to wedge the camera still, although at least the wire mesh surrounding the Observation Deck gives a modicum of support.

Shoreditch church (dedicated to St Leonard) is of ancient origin and features in the famous line: 'when I grow rich say the bells of Shoreditch', from the nursery rhyme: Oranges and Lemons.

The original church is possibly Saxon in origin, though the first historical reference to it occurs in the 12th century.

It is noted as the burial place of several members of the theatrical profession, from the Elizabethan period, including:

James Burbage, the founder of The Theatre, England's first playhouse, built in Shoreditch in 1576.

His son Richard, who was the leading man in many of Shakespeare's plays, which were first performed in the contemporary Shoreditch theatres.

The comedian Richard Tarlton, who was a stalwart of the pre-Shakespearian stage.

These, with others of their profession from the period, are commemorated by a large classical memorial erected by the London Shakespeare League in 1913, inside the church, which serves as a reminder of Shoreditch's Shakespearian heritage.

The Revd Paul Turp

Following the partial collapse of of the tower in 1716 the medieval church was rebuilt in Palladian style 1736-40, with a soaring steeple of original design, 192 feet tall, and a giant four columned, pedimented Tuscan portico. Inside the church the entablature is supported by giant Doric columns. The new church was designed by George Dance, architect of the Mansion House. Many original eighteenth century fixtures and fittings remain, including the font, the pulpit, the communion table, clock, organ case, bread cupboards and commandment boards. It was lit with gaslight in 1817, the first in London. One of its parishioners at that time was James Parkinson, after whom Parkinson's disease is named.

The parish stocks and whipping post stand in the porch of the church and in the churchyard is the Shoreditch parish pump

''...Mentre fantasticavo stu penziero,

s'era ggià fatta quase mezanotte,

e i' rumanette 'nchiuso priggiuniero,

muorto 'e paura...nnanze 'e cannelotte.

Tutto a 'nu tratto,che veco 'a luntano?

Ddoje ombre avvicenarse 'a parte mia...

Penzaje: stu fatto a me mme pare strano...

Stongo scetato...dormo, o è fantasia?

Ate che fantasia; era 'o Marchese:

c'o' tubbo,'a caramella e c'o' pastrano;

chill'ato apriesso a isso un brutto arnese;

tutto fetente e cu 'na scopa mmano.

E chillo certamente è don Gennaro...

'o muorto puveriello...'o scupatore.

'Int 'a stu fatto i' nun ce veco chiaro:

so' muorte e se ritirano a chest'ora?

Putevano sta' 'a me quase 'nu palmo,

quando 'o Marchese se fermaje 'e botto,

s'avota e tomo tomo..calmo calmo,

dicette a don Gennaro: "Giovanotto!

ma Voi perdeste il senso e la misura;

la Vostra salma andava, si, inumata;

i' nun v'avesse fatto chistu tuorto;

mia moglie è stata a ffa' sta fesseria,

i' che putevo fa' si ero muorto?

Si fosse vivo ve farrie cuntento,

pigliasse 'a casciulella cu 'e qquatt'osse

e proprio mo, obbj'...'nd'a stu mumento

mme ne trasesse dinto a n'ata fossa".

"E cosa aspetti, oh turpe malcreato,

che l'ira mia raggiunga l'eccedenza?

Se io non fossi stato un titolato

avrei già dato piglio alla violenza!"

"Famme vedé.. - piglia sta violenza...

'A verità, Marché, mme so' scucciato

'e te senti; e si perdo 'a pacienza,

mme scordo ca so' muorto e so mazzate!...

Ccà dinto, 'o vvuo capi, ca simmo eguale?...

...Muorto si 'tu e muorto so' pur'io;

ognuno comme a 'n'ato è tale e quale".

Bit of a cheat, didn't fancy having to get up at 3am in the UK to photograph the supermoon, so took this not long after sunset at Dungeness when the rising moon caught the last rays of the setting sun.

Everyone has heard of Virgil and Wyatt Earp; well, if you are interested in American wild west history, that is. However, little is known

about their distant second cousins, Burp and Turp Earp. It seems Burp and Turp were electrical lineman in the Mojave Desert of California

for many years, but, neither one could hold a job for long. They would come into town after work and get tanked on Sarsaparilla and then

go out and shoot insulators off the cross arms of the poles they had strung wire on. It seems their other brother by another mother, Phelony

Earp, was an electrical insulator manufacturer and all three brothers were in cahoots to try and bolster Phelony's business.

(everything above is fictitious)

An oldie but goldie. Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland's most photographed castle......photographed again for good measure.

Something of an experiment - how to do Rounded Edges directly in Lightroom without Photoshop. Found this video Lightroom Rounded Corners by Matt Kloskowski. That's not to say that roundy edges are good thing though!

The image is the wire globe at NordKapp, Norway, furthest point north on the European mainland. It's about 1/2 hour drive from Honningsvag where apart from the globe you'll find the obligatory, but very good, Tourist Centre. For the record, Latitude is 71d, 10',21" North.

If heaven is a place on earth it might be in Wasdale in the Lake District. With glorious weather, the Lake District in Cumbria is stunning. Despite visiting in late September, this is the first time I've been there when it wasn't raining and what a difference. This is Wastwater with Scafell Pike peaking through at Wasdale Head, claimed as one of the best views in the UK which I'd have to agree with.
