Tui poses with a piece of wood that looks like a bazooka. After walking the half hour into the mangroves and cutting wood, we goofed around for a while before starting the walk home.

I went out to get the mail and brought my camera with me. Then I heard the distinctive warbling of the tui and captured this and a few other shots.

Tui's on Tiritiri Matangi bird reserve. They are a nectar eater, endemic to New Zealand. Noisy, bolshy and beautiful. Tui's are endemic to new zealand - one of the native nectar feeders. One of the more common native birds.
