A TUI Airlines Belgium Boeing 737-800 in special Family Life livery on finals for Schiphol Airports Oostbaan
I captured these Tui birds last year this time, in this tree a Taiwan cherry, the blossoms are thick and lushious, there could have easily been about 20 birds in this one tree. They are very excited and make quite a din. Some say they could be slightly intoxicated due to the nectar and or the breeding season.

I stopped when driving past a tree with tuis in it as I thought my dear Michael might like to see a NZ native birdie... and I used one for our website's photo of the day! Mike first... work second... hmmm I think it's supposed to be the other way around...
The camellias are in flower and the local Tui are dropping by. I'm not sure they're that keen on camellias, they don't hang about the way they would if a kōwhai was flowering.
Tuis are an iconic bird in New Zealand. An endemic species, and locally common, they are loud singers with an amazing variety and quality of calls - hard to describe but easy to recognize. About the size of a mockingbird, they have bizarre sets of feathers from the wire-like feathers on their neck to the white tufts of feathers on their chin - which caused the early colonists to refer to them as parson birds. They became an instant favorite for me.

Most distinguishing feature is the white tuff or bow tie on the front of neck. Love nectar and mostly associated with Kowhai flowers. Size about 30cm.

I was out for a wee smoke break while editing some other shots, when this tui turned up in the trees around my house. I dived back inside to grab the camera, and got a few shots. As you can tell, I am by no means a wildlife photography, but I really do like all the birds that hang around my garden - the karori bird sanctuary seems to have done wonders for the birds right across the city.

It's early summer and the harakeke (New Zealand Flax) is in full bloom and that means tui season- The birds are in an orgiastic ecstacy of gluttony flying from flower to flower to gorge on the nectar. These shots were all taken at Zealandia.
Tui are an endemic passerine bird of New Zealand. It is one of the largest members of the diverse honeyeater family. The name Tui is from the Maori language name tūī and is the species' formal common name. The plural is simply 'Tui', following Māori usage. The English name, Parson Bird, has fallen into disuse but came about because at first glance the Tui appears completely black except for a small tuft of white feathers at its neck and a small white wing patch, causing it to resemble a parson in religious attire.
On closer inspection it can be seen that Tui have faded browner patches on the back and flanks, a multicoloured iridescent sheen that varies with the angle from which the light strikes them, and a dusting of small, white-shafted feathers on the back and sides of the neck that produce a lacy collar.
Tui are considered to be very intelligent, much like parrots. They also resemble parrots in their ability to clearly imitate human speech, and are known for their noisy, unusual call, different for each individual, that combine bellbird-like notes with clicks, cackles, timber-like creaks and groans, and wheezing sounds—the unusual possession of two voiceboxes enable Tui to perform such a myriad of vocalisations.Some of the huge range of Tui sounds are beyond the human register. Watching a Tui sing, one can observe gaps in the sound when the beak is agape and throat tufts throbbing. Tui will also Tui sing at night, especially around the full moon period. The yellow deposits on the crest of this Tūī are grains of pollen rubbed off from the flowers on which it has been feeding.Nectar is the normal diet but fruit and insects are frequently eaten, and pollen and seeds more occasionally. Particularly popular is the New Zealand flax, whose nectar sometimes ferments, resulting in the Tui flying in a fashion that suggests that they might be drunk. Tui are the main pollinators of flax, kowhai, kaka beak and some other plants. Note that the flowers of the three plants mentioned are similar in shape to the Tui's beak—a vivid example of mutualistic coevolution.
Male Tui can be extremely aggressive, chasing all other birds (large and small) from their territory with loud flapping and sounds akin to rude human speech. This is especially true of other Tui when possession of a favoured feeding tree is impinged. Birds will often erect their body feathers in order to appear larger in an attempt to intimidate a rival. They have even been known to mob harriers and magpies. The powered flight of Tui is quite loud as they have developed short wide wings, giving excellent manoeuverability in the dense forest they prefer, but requiring rapid flapping. They can be seen to perform a mating display of rising at speed in a vertical climb in clear air, before stalling and dropping into a powered dive, then repeating. Much of this behaviour is more notable during the breeding season of early spring—September and October. Females alone build nests of twigs, grasses and mosses.

Tui nên tự đánh giá bản thân mình là một đứa con gái ntn nhỉ ?
Nói thật thì tui chẳng xinh xắn gì, đúng hơn là xấu, mà xấu đều nên đâm ra cũng dễ nhìn chút (copy được trên ola) =)).
Thấp và ú, đó 2 hai tính từ miêu tả ngắn gọn nhất về tui, nhưng mà tui hok mấy tự ti về điều đó, chẳng phải tui đang sống tốt và yêu đời mỗi ngày đó sao :D, nói thật nha, cái mảng về ngoại hình đó không làm tui phài dè chừng hay ái ngại khi tui muốn làm quen và nói chuyện với ai đó đâu, tui không biết mình là đứa con gái dạn dĩ hay quá tía lia nữa :)) ?!
Tui tự thấy, cái sự “dạn dĩ” của mình cũng hay ho, nhờ nó mà tui có thâm rất nhiều bạn mới, dù chỉ gặp nhau rồi cười hay hỏi han vài câu, tui cũng thấy đủ lắm rồi.
Tui từng tuổi này, chưa bao giờ dám khẳng định rằng người bạn này, người bạn kia, người bạn nọ , ai là người dành tình cảm cho tui nhiều nhứt, tui ái ngại khi nói ra điều đó, bởi tui nghĩ tình cảm ng` khác dành cho mình, mình nên tự cảm nhận thay vì phải nói ra như thế !!
Đừng cố chứng tỏ mình ở vị trí quan trọng nhất trong lòng người khác, mà hãy tự hỏi mình đã xứng đáng chưa?
*Chỉ cần bạn biết tui và bạn là bạn của nhau, lưu cái tên tui trong trí óc, tui cũng sẽ mỉm cười vì hạnh phúc*
Hồi đó, tui từng ganh tỵ, hờn dỗi nhiều lắm, vì tui thấy như mình bị bỏ rơi trong những cuộc nói chuyện (thật ra không ai bỏ rơi tui cả, chỉ là tui tự bỏ rơi tui thôi) . Nhưng mà tui bây giờ - 18t rồi, tui tự hiểu ra rằng, mỗi người bạn có một vị trí khác nhau trong lòng tui, tui yêu quý họ theo những cách khác nhau, bởi vì không ai giống ai, không thề dùng cách thương yêu của người này để yêu thương người kia, mọi thứ đều có vị trí riêng của nó. Nhưng tất cả chúng đều có chung một điểm, đó đều là tình yêu.
Tui chắc rằng, dù tui có sống thêm lần nữa, chắc gì tui đã có những người bạn như họ?
Nếu từ bỏ nhau dễ dàng như việc quăng một đôi dép cũ vào sọt rác thì đó đã không phải là tình bạn rồi.
Bởi vì là b-ạ-n nên hãy đối xử với bạn, như đối xử với chính bản thân mình.
[♥] Tui không phải quá cao cả, quá hoàn thiên để nghĩ rằng tui sẽ làm tốt những điều tui nói, nhưng tui sẽ cố gắng. (tui đang cố gắng, vạch xuất phát là từ trong những suy nghĩ của tui, tui muốn dơn.giản.hóa nó)
Tình bạn là ở đó, mà những người bạn tốt sẽ thấy được khuyết điểm của bạn và khéo léo giúp bạn sửa đổi chúng.
...Và nên nhớ, đừng vì chút hờn ghen mà đánh mất những điều kì diệu...

thì bạn biết nên cư xử ntn rồi,
phải không?

Adult birds are about 30cm long. The male is heavier (120g) females about 90g. Appear black but in the light have green, bluish-purple and bronze colouring; a lacy collar of white filaments and white throat tufts; black legs and curved black bill and a white wing bar. Both sexes are alike. Juvenile tui are a dull slate black with glossy wings and tail, a greyish-white throat without the white throat tufts.
