A cattle egret picking flies off a horse's face in an Olhao smallholding. Not sure I'd be as relaxed as the horse with a sharp bill so close to my eyes.
The birthplace of Thomas Bewick, Northumbria's greatest artist, wood engraver and naturalist. Also the 19thC farmhouse, home of the Bewick family, houses a small exhibition on Bewick's life and work. Birthplace cottage, farmyard animals including pet donkeys, lambs and poultry and garden with picnic lawn. Beautiful views of the Tyne Valley and short walk from south bank of River Tyne. Print workshop on the premises.
A bond of trust exists between the Kazakh eagle trainers and their golden eagles, as can be seen in this black and white image from the Sunkar Raptor Falcon Sanctuary, Almaty, Kazakhstan.

April 23, 2016 · Washington, DC · on a Subversive Snaps photowalk with Rachel. This is an exterior wall of The Fridge DC, an art space in Barracks Row / Capitol Hill, but I don't know the artist. If you recognize it, let me know.

The garden team consists of the Head Gardener, Assistant Head Gardener and four full-time gardeners, aided by two National Trust trainees, a college placement and many volunteers.
Their aim is to present this natural paradise at its best to the 350,000 annual visitors, whilst also caring for the walled gardens and greenhouses near Stourhead House. Their challenge is to balance the needs of visitors with those of conservation.
Highlight of a peaceful day in the hides at Lackford Lakes. I've not been to this reserve for years, and our patience was well rewarded by several Kingfishers (or the same one several times...) over the course of the day.

Henry V111 made a good job of destroying many of the UK's monastic abbeys, however at Fountains Abbey even despite his best efforts there is still a great deal that has survived.
Fountains Abbey was built from 1132 and is regarded as the most complete abbey ruin in the UK. As well as being managed by English Heritage and the National Trust this property is registered as a World Hereitage Site.
The National Trust has laid on a week of illumination at the abbey so we took a punt on the weather being dry and went along last night. Thankfully there is plenty of space so the evening was about as Covid friendly as can be achieved.
This amazing castle was the last Royalist stronghold in the south west. It held out against the Parliamentarian forces (Roundheads) until betrayed by one of the officers. Lady Mary Bankes had held Corfe against two sieges but had to surrender when enemy troops had been allowed inside by her officer Colonel Pitman.
The Roundheads then spent some time using vast quantities of gunpowder trying to destroy it!
They allowed Lady Mary Bankes to go to her home at Kingston Lacey and was given the keys of the castle which can still be seen at Kingston Lacey.
