Some of the beautiful silver birch trees at a National Trust property. I like the colour that the flowers add to the picture.

This little chow mix has been bottle fed by his foster since he was only a week old, and his loving trust is evident in the way he falls into puppy slumber, sweet belly up, on the arm of his foster human.

Had a bimble around this lovely place and struck lucky with beautiful day for sunlight. Defo a revisit in spring with all the apple blossom in the orchards in bloom.

Governor O'Malley hosts maryland environmental trust at Government House by Tom Nappi at Government House, Annapolis, Maryland

Driving in Haiti is crazy. This is a narrow (duh) street on our way up to our walled compound. There are no sidewalks, and people could be on either side. The only rule of the road seems to be the bigger vehicle gets the right of way.

On our first day, our bus was met by a pickup truck coming down the hill. Each driver started yelling at the other, and there was a man standing on the street whose head moved back and forth as if he were watching a tennis match. Finally, he started yelling at the pickup driver and motioning him to back up.

Now look carefully at the space above: Can you imagine a bus and a pickup truck side by side? Haitian drivers come much closer to other vehicles and people than I have ever seen in the States. And they weave around each other on bigger roads like nobody's business. Whenever a driver is on a curve, he beeps the horn so that drivers in the other direction know that he is coming.

Claremont Landscape Garden, just outside Esher, Surrey, England, is one of the earliest surviving gardens of its kind of landscape design, the English Landscape Garden — still featuring its original 18th-century layout. The garden is Grade I listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

Originally created for Claremont House, it represents the work of some of the best known landscape gardeners, such as Charles Bridgeman, Capability Brown, William Kent and Sir John Vanbrugh.

Work on the gardens began around 1715 and by 1727 they were described as "the noblest of any in Europe". Within the grounds, overlooking the lake, is an unusual turfed amphitheatre, which used to form the centrepiece of an annual event called the Claremont Fête champêtre. Hundreds of visitors descended on Claremont, most in costume (each year has a different theme) to enjoy four days of music, theatre and fireworks.

In 1949 the landscape garden was donated to the National Trust for stewardship and protection. Initially it was managed by Esher Urban District Council who could do little more than basic maintenance and grass-cutting. in 1974 the National Trust took back control of the site and a pioneering restoration programme was launched in 1975 following a significant donation by the Slater Foundation.

"Let us ... remember Peter: three times he denied Jesus, precisely when he should have been closest to him; and when he hits bottom he meets the gaze of Jesus who patiently, wordlessly, says to him: "Peter, don't be afraid of your weakness, trust in Me." Peter understands, he feels the loving gaze of Jesus and he weeps. How beautiful is this gaze of Jesus — how much tenderness is there! Brothers and sisters, let us never lose trust in the patience and mercy of God!"

October half term means halloween activities in museums etc everywhere.
