Day 2: June 19 2022

 

On June 18-19 ICAN and ICAN Austria brought together social change innovators, educators, and nuclear weapons experts from across the globe for a unique civil society gathering ahead of the first Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Vienna.

 

On September 26th, 2018 - the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons - ICAN and a cross-regional group of governments coordinated a high-level ceremony for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. At the event 7 countries signed and 4 countries ratified the Treaty.

The G7 Parliamentarian Forum for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons took place in Tokyo and Hiroshima from April 28 to April 30, 2023.

 

On April 29th, a delegation of parliamentarians visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and laid flowers at the Hiroshima Cenotaph.

 

During the Forum, parliamentarians from G7 countries convened to recognize the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons, condemn threats to use them, and discuss ways to eliminate them altogether through the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
