Prized for its delightful fragrance, Syringa vulgaris (Common Lilac) is a mainstay of the spring landscape in northern and colder climates.
PS can you spot the little visitor?

Common lilac bushes (Syringa vulgaris) are deciduous shrubs that bloom in the late spring. They are part of the olive family, along with other such ornamental plants as ash trees, forsythia bushes, and privet shrubs. The outstanding quality of many lilac varieties is the sweet fragrances of their flowers. The blooms appear in the mid- to late spring in branching clusters, or panicles. Each flower is only about 1/3 inch across. The leaves are gray-green to blue-green in color and reach around 2 to 5 inches long; they do not change color in the fall. And the bark of this shrub is gray to grayish brown. The best time to plant lilac bushes is in the early fall before the ground freezes. They have a moderate growth rate of 1 to 2 feet per year.

This doesn't look like the lilacs I knew years ago, or maybe I've forgotten what they looked like. But the plant identification we page that I use says that this is a lilac. So be it.
Thank you for looking. Isn't God a great artist?
The story of lilac, according to Greek mythology, begins with a beautiful nymph named Syringa (lilac's botanical name). Captivated by her beauty, Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest. Frightened by Pan's affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush – the flower we now refer to as lilac.
HMM!

If that is not an indication of spring! Red lilac in abundance. Almost as in the spring and love song from 1953 by Willy Frisch: When the white lilac blooms again. Thus, the film of the same name with Romy Schneider - but I never saw.
Syringa vulgaris is a species of flowering plant, grown for its scented pink flowers in spring, this large shrub or small tree is widely cultivated and has been naturalized in parts of Europe and North America.
Today it was a perfect spring day in Melbourne, so I decided to take a walk. My journey took me past a high fence over which I could just see the top of a tall lilac bush.
Syringa, commonly known as lilac is a genus of twelve currently recognized species of flowering woody plants in the olive family, native to woodland and scrub from southeastern Europe to eastern Asia, and widely and commonly cultivated in temperate areas elsewhere.
Spring has finally come to Melbourne, and everywhere, gardens are bursting forth with beautiful coloured blooms in a profusion of colours after a wetter than usual winter.

Syringa (Lilac) is a genus of about 20–25 species of flowering plants in the olive family (Oleaceae), is native to Europe and Asia.
The usual flower colour is a shade of purple (often a light purple or lilac), but white and pale pink are also found.
The flowers grow in large panicles, and in several species have a strong fragrance.
With love to you and thank you for ALL your faves and comments, hope you all have a great time! M, (* _ *)
