A flame...also a bit symbolic
Let's try to keep the flame burning in the new year, by helping each other.
Then the world will get a little better...

This is very iconic Norwegian. (But very far from my everyday life) These are the same kind of horses that the Norwegian vikings used.
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a pink or purple day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Smile on Saturday is Infinity symbol. At first, I had a very difficult time to find an infinity symbol in my props… but then there was this elastic orange hair band laying on the floor in front of me. And since I’m lazy I wasn’t about to pick it up (especially that my house is a total mess right now because of our renovations) until I noticed that it was a perfect Infinity symbol ! Isn’t that great ? Of course, turning an orange elastic band into a levitating infinity symbol was another problem but I’m pretty much satisfied with the results. And I truly hope it will make you smile !!
Juste for your information: I have lots of things going on in my personal life right now and due to our renovations going super fast my « photo studio » (aka coffee table) and all my props had to take a vacation and all of my stuff is currently in my bathtub (yes, people !! The struggle is real, there is virtually no free space left in my house … event the bathtub is full of stuff !! And yes, we did put a cork in, just in case !!). So I’m will not be able to publish daily anymore (which makes me truly sad since I got truly attached to all your awesome comments, support and this amazing community…). For now, I will be officially on « vacation » from Flickr (but it isn’t by choice …). I will try to publish as soon as possible. Until then : stay well and safe my friends !!
Have a beautiful day !! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!!
We can express our feelings regarding the world around us either by poetic or by descriptive means. I prefer to express myself metaphorically. Let me stress: metaphorically, not symbolically. A symbol contains within itself a definite meaning, certain intellectual formula, while metaphor is an image. An image possessing the same distinguishing features as the world it represents. An image — as opposed to a symbol — is indefinite in meaning. One cannot speak of the infinite world by applying tools that are definite and finite. We can analyse the formula that constitutes a symbol, while metaphor is a being-within-itself, it's a monomial. It falls apart at any attempt of touching it.

The Konark Sun Temple. An ancient architecture built in 13th century, was dedicated to God 'Sun'. With twelve pairs of gigantic sundials, ornamented chariots and classical arts, carved over the stone walls, its a cool place to recall Indian history. Also once was known as Black Pagoda to Europeans as the ships passing through near by used to experience destruction of their navigation systems because of humongous magnetic supports of the temple.
Simply its a perfect composition of engineering, astronomy and fine art !!!
I am so lucky to have two kids that absolutely adore each other. They are also very creative, so I did not even have to ask to make this love symbol for me. I love them dearly.

I really dislike people being trained on a single decker. You need to have the awareness of a high vehicle, so you are looking for overhanging trees etc - and signs on bridges!
A house stood on this plot,, now at least three homes are going up. These are the backs of the new homes and the front is directly onto the pavement, so not homes for gardeners.

A quad set of BIGs head across the series of lakes, ponds, and marshes that skirt the track near Gouldsboro. They are on their way back to Scranton after a busy day of working customers on the Pocono Mountain main line. Thanks to my friend G Don Marson for getting me in here, and I believe Brian Plant of Grundy Tours guided him prior to this.

Back from my holidays in the wonderful North of France (Pays de la Loire to be precise!).
Being in the middle of nowhere meant I had the opportunity to take some photos of the Perseids and the Milky Way!
I've called the photo 'Heavenly Symbols' because, shooting stars, the Milky Way and (more obviously) the cross can have religious symbolism!
For me it was just a wonderful night under a sea of stars!!
Looking forward to catching up with all your photos over the last 2 weeks!

The common sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is a species of large annual forb of the daisy family Asteraceae. The common sunflower is harvested for its edible oily seeds which are used in the production of cooking oil.
The Helianthus annuus has a variety of purposes e.g. food for livestock, bird food, and planted in domestic gardens for aesthetics. The Helianthus annuus is known for its multiple flower heads, whereas the domestic sunflower often possesses a single large flower head atop an unbranched stem.
In the binomial name Helianthus annuus, the genus name is derived from the Greek ἥλιος : hḗlios 'sun' and ἄνθος : ánthos 'flower'. The species name annuus means 'annual' in Latin.
Common sunflower was one of several plants cultivated by Native Americans in prehistoric North America as part of the Eastern Agricultural Complex. Although it was commonly accepted that the sunflower was first domesticated in what is now the southeastern US, roughly 5,000 years ago, there is evidence that it was first domesticated in Mexico around 2600 BCE. These crops were found in Tabasco, Mexico, at the San Andres dig site.
The earliest known examples in the US of a fully domesticated sunflower have been found in Tennessee, and date to around 2300 BCE. Other very early examples come from rockshelter sites in Eastern Kentucky. Many indigenous American peoples used the sunflower as the symbol of their solar deity, including the Aztecs and the Otomi of Mexico and the Incas in South America.
In 1510, early Spanish explorers encountered the sunflower in the Americas and carried its seeds back to Europe. Of the four plants known to have been domesticated in eastern North America and to have become important agricultural commodities, the sunflower is currently the most economically important.
The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 18th of June is “infinity symbol”. As administrator of the group, Maria, said, such a symbol is not so easy to find, yet is easy to create. They do say “that if you don’t use it, you lose it”, and it has been a little while since I picked up my pencil and pens and did some drawing, so I decided to apply my artistic skills and draw the infinity symbol. I decided to be a little bit different and add to it the words live and love to it, which I have woven into the symbol, as I think it is important to live and to love to infinity. I’m sure you agree. I’ve surrounded my drawing with the tools I used to create it and my left hand, as my right hand was busy depressing the shutter for this shot. I hope you like my creation for this week’s theme, and that it brings a smile to your face.

To celebrate Earth Day, here's a California Condor.
In 1982, only 22 California Condors were left in the world.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began a captive breeding program in 1983, teaming with the Los Angeles Zoo and the San Diego Wild Animal Park. (Additional breeding facilities were added later at The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho and at the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon.)
Thanks to the monumental effort by these organizations and the dedicated people involved, California Condors now number over 500, with more than half flying free in the wild.
Helios 44M-7 at F2 plus a 2x teleconverter. I have photographed this wooden figurine before. As an object, its nature is trivial and some might call it kitsch. To me, it has its enigmatic fascination. It popped up right at the beginning, when I met the woman who would become my wife. Difficult to put into words what goes on inside. Associations like 'home', 'protection' and 'intimacy' well up. The totally unsubstantiated feeling, you know, that, 'in the end, everything will be alright'. Symbols work this way, signposts to a world that is (eventually) in order.
