The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan and a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Eurasia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa. The name 'mute' derives from it being less vocal than other swan species... wikipedia

Taken on a cold winter day in Pa. Ice was forming around the lake, but the swans seemed oblivious. Could have watched them all day....
A male swan (cob) tries to impress his feeding mate (called a pen). Didn't work tho.....
I believe these are tundra swans. Could be trumpeters, but don't think so. Tundra swans are decidedly more common.

One last swan image, I am quite excited about this pair and hoping to be able to observe them with their family.
According to Wikipedia, this species is "the heaviest living bird native to North America", and the largest waterfowl in the world.
