The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan and a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Eurasia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa. The name 'mute' derives from it being less vocal than other swan species... wikipedia

Taken on a cold winter day in Pa. Ice was forming around the lake, but the swans seemed oblivious. Could have watched them all day....

A male swan (cob) tries to impress his feeding mate (called a pen). Didn't work tho.....

I believe these are tundra swans. Could be trumpeters, but don't think so. Tundra swans are decidedly more common.

A pair of Mute Swans on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond at Luss, Scotland. Captured just before the lock down on a jaunt to some deserted locations for a last gasp of fresh air. Enjoy!

From the Michigan DNR website: "Mute swans are an invasive non-native species that pose a growing threat to native animals, habitat and people. Their numbers are well above an acceptable range "

Swan's feather ... (not one drop will be soaked up ... the water-repellent properties are truly remarkable.)
