Gammeltorv, Copenhagen's oldest square, beats in the heart of the city, connecting to the Strøget pedestrian zone and Nytorv. Since the Middle Ages, it has been a vital marketplace, meeting point, and venue for public events, reflecting the social and commercial history of the Danish capital. At the center of the square, the Caritas Fountain (Caritasbrønden), erected in 1608 by Christian IV and subsequently reconstructed, stands out as a Renaissance landmark. Traditionally, golden balls float in its waters during monarchical celebrations. The granite cobblestone pavement and the priority given to soft mobility are evident. The surrounding architecture is eclectic, showcasing plastered masonry buildings with patinated copper-domed towers and red brick facades, testaments to reconstructions and expansions of the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, Gammeltorv remains a vibrant meeting point, uniting Copenhagen's historical legacy with its contemporary urban dynamism, surrounded by cafes, shops, and historical buildings.

The Pedro and Inês pedestrian bridge, inaugurated in 2006, is an infrastructure designed by António Adão da Fonseca and Cecil Balmond, part of the urban redevelopment program Polis. Featuring a wooden walkway and guardrails made of laminated glass in geometric shapes and four colors — yellow, blue, green, and pink — the bridge filters sunlight, providing a fragmented view of the city of Coimbra and the course of the Mondego River. This crossing facilitates mobility between the banks of the Mondego Green Park, safely connecting pedestrian and cycling paths. The innovative design creates an illusion of separation between the banks, converging at a square suspended over the water. Through the colorful panels, one can observe the wooded bank and the hill of Alta, home to the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thus, the bridge symbolizes the connection between the city’s historical past and its modernity, serving as a meeting point appreciated by residents and tourists who enjoy panoramic views and the surrounding environment.

When I arrived at this pier, I was immediately struck by the graphic power of this green lighthouse standing like a modern sentinel. What particularly drew me in was the natural dialogue between the roughness of the concrete and this almost artificial touch of color. I waited for the right moment, and when this cyclist stopped, I knew I had my image. Their white presence brought exactly the human touch the composition needed. I wanted to capture that feeling of calm and solitude you can experience at the end of a pier, while playing with lines and textures. The soft, diffused light of this moment allowed me to highlight the different materials - the weathered concrete, the moving water, and this bright green that unifies the entire composition. My intention was to create an image where functional maritime architecture transforms into an almost theatrical scene, where each element tells part of the location's story.

Through the colored laminated glass panels of the Pedro and Inês Pedestrian Bridge, erected over the Mondego River in 2006, a fragmented and unique perspective of Coimbra is observed. This structure, an integral part of the Polis Program, was conceived by engineer António Adão da Fonseca and architect Cecil Balmond, incorporating wooden walkways and glass side railings with irregular geometric shapes in shades of yellow, blue, green, and pink, which filter the light and modify the chromatic perception of the surroundings. The illusion of mismatched banks, united by a suspended central plaza, gives the bridge a technically innovative design. The framing provided by the glass allows distinguishing the Green Park and, in the background, the city's slope, dominated by the University of Coimbra, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bridge, in addition to promoting pedestrian and cycling mobility between the banks, functions as an element of urban design, modulating light, transparency, and safety, and establishing a symbolic link between the city's historical past and its modernity.

The fundamental idea is to put two basic needs and necessities of the today’s consumer society in a nutshell: we would like to offer pure driving pleasure combined with environmental friendly responsibility, all this in front of the amazing scenario of the Dolomites.
