It's my understanding the red ring around the sun is a "solar diffraction ring."
This was taken from my backyard, just as the sun cleared a low spot in the trees.
I got caught up in heavy traffic and a road accident on my trip out yesterday so sadly missed the sunrise in Kent that I was so hoping to see. This is one from the previous weekend in Norfolk. It will not be everyone's cup of tea because of the pylons but unfortunately that is where the sun came up and where I was at the time, so I had to make the best of it. I myself rather like the massive structure of the Pylon against the sun. These are the Whooper swans that are flying to their feeding grounds for the day. One of our winter visiting Swans.

A Cracking sunrise on Sunday in more ways than one..
Whilst traveling to Zouch for sunrise a tog friend and I decided on a quick stop on the way at Sawley...this turned out to be a unfortunate decision...whilst on the way back to the car I slipped on ice and landed very heavily on my elbow...I was in extreme pain but decided on keeping on going to our chosen location...although I was happy to capture a beautiful sunrise I later learned I had carried on photographing with a fractured elbow.. lol..I'm not safe to go out with a camera...
After my first night in Florida I woke up very early. So I went to the beach and watched the sun rise. It was so beautiful! Thank you, jet lag!!!

Sunrise on the Hudson River at low tide. Fall colors are very late this year. You'll notice the tree to the right has very few leaves changed to red. Just been a weird year.

'January sunrise' On Black is better.
The sunrise came up trumps today, 2nd January, and coloured the clouds all over the sky. It makes up for yesterday's plain catch.
