It is a famous sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason in Reykjavik. It is often described as a dreamboat or an ode to the sun. It conveys the promise of undiscovered land, a dream of hope, progress and freedom. During the day the place is full of tourists, but in the blue hour it is a very tranquil place.

Al atardecer. Eran las once y media de la tarde y el sol se estaba acostando poco a poco. Detrás de mi y alrededor una docena de fotógrafos, para hacer exactamente la misma foto que yo. Plagiadores sin pudor alguno.

The Sun Voyager is a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason, located at the seafront in Reyjavik, Iceland. I was there only for three days in may, the weather was unusually cold and rainy, but I enjoyed very much the wonderful light of the (almost) neverending day.

Decided these images I took in the new year deserved a different edit :)
Started as a B&W then adjusted WB to try and reflect the coldness of the morning
On our final night, as the sun turned orange we ran to the river to see the harbor. The Sun Voyager stands out against snow capped mountains, blue water, and a setting sun. When in Reykjavik, you must see this are at night. Skip the afternoon sun, and wait until evening.

A fantastic aurora display over the Sky Voyager and the John Lennon Peace Tower (blue beam) at Reykjavík
The Sólfar (Sun Voyager) sculptue on the sea front in Reykjavík - I thought a long exposure would suit the image as the broken cloud was moving in the direction the ship is pointing.
An updated version of an image taken back in July 2015 using Silver Efex Pro 2 for the B&W conversion and processing.
Sun Voyager (Icelandic: Sólfar) is a sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason (1931 - 1989), and represents a dreamboat, an ode to the sun. The sculpture is located by Sæbraut, by the sea in the centre of Reykjavík, Iceland.
In 1986, the district association of the west part of the city funded a competition for a new outdoor sculpture to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the city of Reykjavík. Jón Gunnar’s Sun Voyager won the competition, and the aluminium model (42.5 x 88 x 36 cm) was presented to the city for enlargement. The full-sized Sun Voyager was eventually unveiled on Sæbraut on the birthday of the city of Reykjavík, August 18th, 1990. The work is constructed of quality stainless steel and stands on a circle of granite slabs.

Just an average night sky over the Sun Voyager, Reykjavík harbour Iceland.
I discovered that the Sun Voyager is just as big a tourist attraction at night as it is during the day. They paid little attention to the frozen chap stood next to the tripod as they lined up for their selfies etc whilst checking the night settings on their iPhones 😂. I’m not sure that going retro gives you more satisfaction when the windchill is -15 but I did realise that a remote release can be worth it’s weight in gold 😀
