‘Jodi no 1’ Goaar Singer Lakhbir Lakha and Gurinder Naaz is Phagwara’s pride
IP Singh (TNN)
Phagwara, September 15, 2007: As singing contests are ruling the small screen these days and have almost created a mania among the viewers spread across the country, a boy and a girl from modest families of Phagwara have become the Jodi No 1 in a Punjabi duet singing competition being telecast by a Punjabi music channel.
The little-known youngsters, Lakhbir Lakha and Gurinder Naaz, have suddenly become a sensation in the Punjabi music world after defeating nine pairs.
On reaching their home town on Friday after final programme was aired on Thursday evening, a warm welcome was accorded to them by prominent citizens and a few Punjabi singers.
The pair was then taken out around the city by enthusiastic supporters. While Lakha belongs to baazigar community, Gurinder, who is studying in BA final year in Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar, is from a dalit family. Lakha’s father had been a labourer all his life and Gurinder’s father after retiring from Army has been working as a supervisor in a local factory.
Three years back they came in contact with each other and started singing together and today after winning the contest, this hot pair has already started receiving offers from various music companies. (With Thanks from "The Times of India, Chandigarh")
According to the report of Goaars of India, Welcome Function was attended by Ex MLA Mr. Malkit Singh Dakha, Harman Preet Singh (Chief Editor, Sangeet Darpan Magazine), Singer Maqbool, Singer Faqir Chand Patanga, Harbans Lalka (General Secretary, Rajput Goaar Council of India), Hans Raj Lalka SHO, Mulkh Raj Mashall SDO, Darshan Singh XEN, Ritesh Kamal, Sodhi Ram Dharamsaut, Beera Ram Valjot Councillor, Darshan Lal Dharamsaut, Sukhdev Pappu and many other prominent personalities.
Remembering Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru who were hanged by the British 78 years back on this very day.
How hard can it be to spot the Tiranga on a sarkari building, right?
Surprisingly, it turned out to be very difficult. I wanted to take a shot of the tricolour thinking that they hoist it daily on the Main Building, IITB. Sadly, I was mistaken. Therefore, I had to make my own tricolour from stuff lying around in my room.

Udham Singh changed his name to "Mohammad Singh Azad" and was also known as Ram Mohammed Singh Azad, symbolizing the unification of the three major religions of India: Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Singh is considered one of the best-known of the more extremist revolutionaries of the Indian freedom struggle; he is also sometimes referred to as Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh (the expression "Shaheed-i-Azam," Urdu: شهید اعظم, means "the great martyr"). Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh along with Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru and Sukhdev, were the more famous names out of scores of young firebrand freedom fighters in the early part of 20th-century India. These young men believed their motherland would win her freedom only through the forceful removal of the British rulers

Khudiram Bose (3 December 1889 – 11 August 1908) was a Bengali revolutionary, one of the youngest revolutionaries early in the Indian independence movement. At the young age of sixteen, Bose planted bombs near police stations and targeted government officials. He was arrested three years later on charges of conducting a series of bomb attacks. The specific bombing for which he was sentenced to death resulted in the deaths of 3 persons.
He wanted to target to govt. officials but unfortunately, killed the wife and daughter of barrister Pringle Kennedy by mistake.
At the time of his hanging, he was 18 years, 7 months 11 days old—barely a legal adult.

This film screening drew on a range of cinematic approaches to examine the links between environment, sensory experience, and well-being. The selected films take us on a journey through varied urban landscapes—from the density of Times Square to the sublime views of San Francisco, from digital mines in contemporary Ghana to the instant cities of contemporary China—offering poignant observations on the visual and sonic stimuli around us.
The screening was followed by a discussion with Paul Dallas, writer and curator; Jeff Risom, Partner, Head of Gehl Institute at Gehl Architects; Sukhdev Sandhu, Associate Professor of English, Social and Cultural Analysis, New York University; and Mabel Wilson, Associate Professor of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University’s GSAPP.
