A lone Maple declares itself in autumn in the depths of a forest of Arbor Vitae. It does not stand out like this when green, or bare. Its shade tolerance will, in due time, lead it to dominance in this place.

Ireland was hit with a succession of Winter Storms last year. I managed to get to experience some of the build up before it got to wet windy and dangerous..

My last observation session dates back to October 31 because since it is only a succession of meteorological disturbances that prevents any exit, fortunately with 51 cumulative lookout sessions on this spot since July 1, I was able to constitute myself a good "Martin" file
** Click on the two arrows at the top right of the image to get the "full screen" instead of clicking directly on the image, as it has a very large format, it degrades if you click directly on it. .... **
PS: any request to share with a group will be rejected immediately, I do not want any publicity on my work (I have largely passed the age to receive Oscars, Good Points and other nonsense of this kind ... ) , thank you for your understanding .

The Calanques, also known as the calanques of Marseille, are made up of a succession of coves and inlets extending over more than twenty kilometers of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea between the Marseilles districts of La Madrague de Montredon and Goudes on the one hand, and between Cape Croisette and the city of Cassis on the other. They are spread over the coast of the Marseilleveyre and Puget mountains. For convenience of language, this mountainous group is also called the Calanques massif. It is one of the most remarkable natural sites in France and a major healing area for 1.5 to 2 million visitors per year on land and at sea.
The word calanque (from Provençal calanco) designates a valley carved out by a river, then recovered by the sea.
The calanques benefit from the protection of the Calanques national park created in April 2012 and which is the first peri-urban national park in Europe and the 3rd in the world. In order to re-stock the waters, certain areas of the park are prohibited from fishing to serve as natural nurseries.

Northern Bobwhites occur throughout Florida in appropriate habitat. They depend on early successional habitat created by frequent fire in mature upland pine forests. Other habitats include fallow agricultural fields dominated by species such as ragweed and the edges of cultivated grain fields. The best habitat combination is frequently burned upland pine forests interspersed with fallow fields/openings. At one time, this was a common habitat in Florida and abundant quail populations were a by-product. This is not the case today, and quail occur in abundant numbers only on those lands that are actively managed to replicate the land use patterns described above.
The northern bobwhite is one of the signature game species of upland long leaf pine forests. In the spring, visitors to these habitats can expect to hear the males whistle the tell-tale “bobwhite” call. In the fall/winter, it's not uncommon to be surprised by a covey of quail flushing from a brushy area.
Bobwhites feed and roost in coveys of 8 to 25 birds. They forage on the ground for a variety of seeds, insects, fruits and plant parts. Females lay 12 to 16 eggs in a shallow nest built on the ground and hidden beneath vegetation.
The northern bobwhite or bobwhite quail is a medium-sized, round-bodied bird with a short tail and neck. Plumage is reddish brown with streaking on the sides. Males have a black-and-white stripe above and below the eye with a white throat patch; in females, the stripe and throat patch is tan and buff brown.

When you get caught in the rain
With nowhere to run
When you're distraught and in pain
Without anyone
When you keep crying out to be saved
But nobody comes
And you feel so far away
That you just can't find your way home
You can get there alone
It's okay, once you say
I can make it through the rain
I can stand up once again
On my own and I know
That I'm strong enough to mend
And every time I feel afraid
I hold tighter to my faith
And I live one more day
And I make it through the rain
And if you keep falling down
Don't you dare give in
You will arise safe and sound
So keep pressing on steadfastly
And you'll find what you need to prevail
Once you say
I can make it through the rain
I can stand up once again
On my own and I know
That I'm strong enough to mend
And every time I feel afraid
I hold tighter to my faith
And I live one more day
And I make it through the rain...

The golden fall is in fact made up of a succession of two waterfalls of 11 and 21 meters, the total height of which reaches 32 meters. The waters of the Hvita River, which rises some 40 kilometers north of Gullfoss, at Lake Hvítávatn, in the country's second largest glacier, the Lángjökull, have carved a veritable canyon 2.5 kilometers long and wide. more than 70 meters at the place of the fall. It is therefore a glacial river of which we can see the intermediate plane and see the 2nd fall
Admiration is a very short-lived passion that immediately decays upon growing familiar with its object, unless it be still fed with fresh discoveries, and kept alive by a perpetual succession of miracles rising into view."

This is another impression from our journey criss-crossing Iceland's Westfjords, this image showing the "root" of a fjord where the road turns around. Every fjord has got its own style of mountain range and I guess that locals could recognise which fjord they are in just from having a look at thos emountains.
I was at this summit several times during the week in succession to photograph the area at sunrise. But the light was never as I wanted it. Most of the time a thick cloud covered the entire sky over the entire area … until this morning here. Finally I said to myself, finally the mood was exactly as in my imagination. And as the sun greeted the world this morning, the first rays could reach the mountain top and bring some rock formations to shine. That was really impressive and my dog Giorgio and I were able to attend this wonderful spectacle while the rest of the world down in the valley was still in bed at this time in the morning!
Thank you for your time and interest in my photos, your visit is most appreciated :-)

Lodgepole pine forest after fire and Tokumm Creek, in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada.
In 2003 a lightning strike sparked the sprawling blaze, which lasted for weeks and consumed 17,000 hectares of forest in Kootenay National Park located roughly 230 kilometers west of Calgary.
Today — 17 years later — the park is still badly scared but vibrant lush foliage is starting to regenerate amid the charred trees. The creek is fed by melting glaciers and colored by finely ground material (glacial till).
I’m kind of privileged to see a phoenix rising from the ashes.
The Royal Mile is a succession of streets forming the main thoroughfare of the Old Town of the city of Edinburgh in Scotland. The term was first used descriptively in W M Gilbert's Edinburgh in the Nineteenth Century (1901), "...with its Castle and Palace and the royal mile between", and was further popularised as the title of a guidebook, published in 1920.
From the Castle gates to the Palace gates the street is almost exactly a mile (1.6 km) long and runs downhill between two significant locations in the royal history of Scotland, namely Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, hence its name. The streets which make up the Royal Mile are (west to east) Castlehill, the Lawnmarket, the High Street, the Canongate and Abbey Strand. The Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the Old Town, rivalled only by Princes Street in the New Town. Wikipedia
After the succession of storms to hit this country there now seems to be a brief window in the weather, and so we are taking advantage of this to head off down to our holiday home at Looe and a change of subject matter. This will therefore be my last posting for maybe a couple of weeks or so. Thank you all very much indeed for your visits and kind comments. I'll aim to catch up with you when we return.
