I have 15 hearts made for my Valentine Hearts class at IMA. There are a range of sizes and shapes to match the abilities of my repeat students and artists new to mosaics. I can't wait to see them mosaiced!

A nice small alga common on hard substrates of the Triest Gulf. Usually this alga grows where the wave effect is greater, this was an isolated specimen at -4m. Take note of the little polychaeta worm in the left bottom corner: I tried to photograph it for an hour, with poor results, and I was amazed to find it in this shot.
This shot needs some post production work on it, I will attempt to do something as soon as I can, but it is saved in a jpg format, not a raw file, so I am not so sure results will be better than this.

I am using 1/2 in Baltic Birch Plywood as a substrate to glue the ship to first before inlaying it to the floor. If I just routed down to the correct surface in the end grain and inlaid it, the movement of both the tiles and the ships pieces would end up pulling the ship apart over time.
I am going to use the jig saw to cut out the ship here, but I want to use a special "scrolling blade." I will pick some up tomorrow after school. Its ok. I am feeling really nauseated from vertigo today and my left ear is giving me fits again so I can make it a light day. Such is life.

Harsh substrate, growing on some mix of weathered and chipped quartz monzonite. This at first seemed to key to Brachythecium asperrimum based on Flowers (1973) treated as a synonym now under Brachythecium frigidum. This doesn't however seem to be a good match for that unless it is a really early phase. The capsules should be red-brown and the leaves thinner and more fragile in appearance. But it does have long reddish setas that are papillose throughout, leaves that are patent to erect-patent and that gradually taper to an end and that are at least somewhat plicate, and long rostrate (beak-shaped), conic lids that are inclined to horizontal.
