monotypia, painting-watercolor
Lucky is a very happy dog, full of playful energy. I talked to her during the photo shoot, and she responded by tilting her head from side to side. So charming!
Auke de Vries (1937) is a well known artist in the Netherlands and abroad. During his lifetime he has realized many monumental commissions.
His sculptures reflect on history and the surroundings, on the flow of rivers and the remnants of industrial areas. They can be huge, but they are always airy. It's a freestyle kind of drawing in space. However, do not underestimate the total weight and the necessary equipment. The small models in his studio have to be realized in full on shipyards and the like.
I have written about his work on several stages in life. This is a recent portrait.
I have been going through the archives to prepare a gift for my sister - a book of photos I have taken of her dogs. This is Nessie as a wee pup.

A few days ago, I had to say goodbye to my wonderful friend Gulliver. He was incredibly smart, playful, goofy and very affectionate. He made me smile every day for 14 years.
My parents obviously thought it a good idea to take me for a studio portrait, shortly before my first birthday. I know this because my dear father,** in his methodical way, wrote the date on the back of the photo.
I re-discovered this while tidying my family history album and have given it a little attention.
Perhaps you are now smiling too?!
**how puzzled my dad would have been by the concept of 'selfie'!!
