East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The Poconos.

This is probably the easiest and most accessible waterfall that we ran into during our Poconos vacation, even if I did miss the turnoff to the Resica Falls Scout Camp where the waterfall is located. There is a small parking area at the entrance to the scout camp and a very easy 200 foot walk to the viewing area gives a great look at the waterfall.

There are actually three cascades although I only captured two in this shot. Unfortunately, we did not have a lot of time to spend here, and I did not take a lot of time to try to get a better shot that would capture all three, but I do have a shot of the third cascade that I will post in the future.

A quartet of six-axle Century Alcos sandwich a short train as they head North through East Stroudsburg after switching the line's Southern most customer, WestRock at dusk. The crew passes under one of the many old signal bridges scattered along the line and the former depot, now occupying the Trackside Grill & Bar, can be seen in the background. East Stroudsburg, Pa

DL ALCO M630 #3000 leads 4 other MLW/ALCOs past West Rock (formerly Rock Tenn) between the Water Gap and East Stroudsburg, PA with a westbound Portland Turn. The train is seen crossing Brodhead Creek on Bells's Bridge. This area was hit very hard by the hurricanes in 1955, and what was once a 2 track bridge was washed away. When the Lackawanna rebuilt the area, it was made into a 1 track bridge.

Delaware & Lackawanna train PO-74 switches out Royal Chemical in East Stroudsburg, PA with a pair of veteran 4 axle Alcos. DL 414, an original Lehigh Valley C420 leads a former SP RS32 (DL 211) as they duck under one of the many Erie Railroad signal bridges along the Pocono Main. They would later continue to run the full length of the main before running around their train at the Delaware Water Gap and returning to Scranton Yard. Taken: 10-11-21

Delaware-Lackawanna PO-75 departs East Stroudsburg to begins the climb back up the Poconos. With its Canadian wide cab clearly identifying its heritage, I liked being able to get it leading a train with it being one of the more unique engines thanks to the cab. 10-22-21

H76 power rolls north along the Pocono Main passing the beautifully restored Lackawanna interlocking tower in East Stroudsburg, PA. For most of the past 15 years the line north of Slateford has been almost exclusively used by the DL. However, recently NS has run between Slateford and Gravel Place whenever DL leaves a train for them up there.

The 10:00 ELDCPS train from East Stroudsburg to Gouldsboro, PA climbs the mountain westbound on the Pocono Main as the recently fallen leaves create an autumn feel for the Christmas train.

The eastbound PO74 eases across N Courtland St in East Stroudsburg, PA with DLWR RS11 #1804 in the lead. Two things of note in this photo - first is the classic car waiting at the crossing. The second is the low gas prices due to the COVID-19 pandemic. IN a few years, we'll look back at $2.08 for gas and be amazed!!!

A chance encounter of noticing the Delaware Lackawanna PO75 working RockTenn led us to East Stroudsburg to photograph them coming back west through town. Pictured is the 75 smoking it up through town with M636 3602 leading. I remember passing these ex-Cartier engines sitting under Route 46 in Ridgefield Park as a kid while in service on the NYSW. Having never photographed them on the NYSW or WNYP, I was pleased to see the DL acquire them a few years back for use on the Pocono Main.

After a stop about a half mile west of here to re-arrange the power, Delaware-Lackawanna C636-3642 & M630-3000 are now on the point. M636-3643 & M630-3007 are on the rear. They're on their way to switch at the Rock Tenn facility on Paper Mill Road in Delaware Water Gap, PA. This location, at the Mill Creek Road grade crossing, is also referred to as Gravel Place.

The unmistakable sound of five labored Alco 251 primer movers fills the air on a peaceful October morning. Delaware-Lackawanna's road freight is pulling hard to lift their NS interchange up out of the Delaware Water Gap. Having recrewed the previous day's train in the Gap, the crew will go as far as Pocono Summit before switch the mill and trying down. Sadly, most interchange between NS and the DL is now done in Scranton.

With their work at Rock Tenn complete, the crew of DL PO-75 returns west through the rock cut in East Stroudsburg. The former DL&W/EL westbound main remains in place, but out of service, through the cut. It does help to show that there was just barely enough space available for two tracks here. M420 2045 is one of two "comfort cab" MLWs on GVT's roster.

After spending an hour switching at the Rock Tenn plant in Delaware Water Gap, Delaware-Lackawanna M630-3007 & M636-3643 are leading the returning W/B P-074 road train. C636-3642 & M630-3000 are on the rear. They will stop at Gravel Place to re-arrange the power again and then head to the Bestway Lumber facility in Cresco to do more switching. This was my last picture of the day, ending a very successful chase of P-074. Now, I'll head over to the Derailed Taphouse in East Stroudsburg for a few brews and dinner. Great place. Delaware Lackawanna's PT98 is meandering its way through East Stroudsburg as the freight makes its way towards the Norfolk Southern interchange at Portland. The old DL&W mainline through town shifts from the old track #2 to the old track #1 alignment and then back again.

Wondering if my town will get burned and looted. No one is boarding up store front windows. I hope nothing happens. I walked around for awhile then sat in my car and drew this view looking at the passenger side rear view mirror. I put stickers over drawings in my sketchbook that I do not like.

After the other day I really wanted to capture lightning at night. For technique I took multiple long exposures, with the meter reading a step or so underexposed. Processed from RAW for a slight exposure and saturation adjustment, added a vignette too.

DL PT-98 is headed to Portland passing through East Stroudsburg on a nice August afternoon. The word was out that RS-32 2035 had just been released from the paint shop and this was the first time three white painted units appeared on the DL. The two others being M420W 2045 and C636 3642!

A Delaware Lackawanna crew shoves east through East Stroudsburg after rearranging their consist at Gravel Place. The crew will spend an hour or so working Rock Tenn in Delaware Water Gap before returning west. Remnants of the once four-track Lackawanna Railroad main line are still visible at this location. The restored DL&W East Stroudsburg tower completes the scene. The DL only serves this end of the Pocono Main about once every few weeks.
