This evening, my sister and I decided to take a quick trip to Borgholm and look at the Christmas lights. As I was looking for different ways to frame the scene, my sister was stood by the big goat in the square. She moved around just enough to create a cool effect during this long exposure.

This was a lot of fun to do. I know string lights are done a lot, but it's just so much fun to play with where the light goes. So this is a string with tiny little glass jars around the lights, which adds some extra effects.

Currently waiting for the snow to arrive here, so we can finally feel the christmas spirit for real!
Standing at the south end of the 300 block and shooting north, this image captures the Promenade's peculiar duality with unusual clarity: on the right, the same Keller-era masonry block from the previous frame, now readable in context; on the left, a construction hoarding wrapping what appears to be a gut renovation or ground-up development, its raw structural steel skeleton visible above the fence line. The tension between these two walls — one a century old, one not yet born — frames the corridor like a before-and-after exhibit in urban economics. The Promenade's signature light installations cascade down the center of the frame in a chandelier-like catenary that draws the eye deep into the composition, the warm festival lighting doing considerable work to animate what is, at this hour, a remarkably empty pedestrian mall. The paired Washington fan palms march in formation toward the vanishing point, their trunks wrapped in fairy lights — a landscaping decision from the Promenade's late-1980s redesign by Lawrence Halprin's office that remains its most recognizable feature. The scattered "For Lease" signage visible on the right tells the quieter story: this is a corridor still finding its post-pandemic footing, the holiday lights a kind of determined optimism against the vacancy.
