The closeup is the colouring-book paper lantern, the further one is the plain white printer paper lantern. They alternate. The coloured lights in the background are chili-pepper string lights.

While it irks me that they have already begun playing Christmas music everywhere, this was a surprisingly fair and mild day, thus, the perfect time to get the lights up- Even if we do not officially illuminate them for a few more weeks.

August 7
This evening I met TX Senate candidate Joe Bogen and his wife for a little video shoot for his campaign. David pretty much ran the show while I pointed lights and cameras at things. It went really well! They ended up taking us to Barley & Board afterward, and we chatted for a long time. They seem like legitimately good peeps. Once it got late, we went our separate ways. I ended up joining David and his cousin Caroline at East Side, where he pitched the Wyoming solar eclipse trip to her. She definitely seemed interested!

For Christmas, Carolyn's brother Jay gave her/us a really trippy "kinetic string strobe art" device. It is basically multi-colored lights that strobe, with a dial to change the pattern, and another dial to change the speed. The strings rotate, with a dial to control how fast they rotate. The arms that hold the string are adjustible. The possibilities are nearly infinite!
We shelled out the $30 for a multi-ac-adapter so that we could plug this in and run it off an x10-enabled remote switch. it's a bit noisy, so we put it on a ruined-from-staining shirt to dampen the noise.

These are the makings of the Cylon Raider String lights. Some bottle tops, lights and then a little paint and magic.
Soon enough, we come across this concrete sculpture set right across the road. It turned out to be a decoration in the middle of a traffic roundabout (rotunda). We need to go off road here for a little diversion around the roundabout due to road works. I initially thought this was a Communist symbol, but looking at the bomb or missile planted vertically behind the people and some of them raising their hands in defiance, it probably celebrates the victory of the Vietnamese people against the American war. Working as a salesfloor drone at Target as I do, I notice lots of pretty things for sale. These particular pretty things cost me two dollars and forty-eight cents.
Tonight I took Katie downtown in the stroller -- the public library is open late on Thursday evenings, and I was in the mood for a movie. I didn't find one, but we did stroll around downtown after dark, which is when I love downtown Dubuque the most. The dead leaves crunched under the stroller wheels as we pushed back up University Avenue, and we were greeted at the top by the delicious aroma of Happy Joe's taco pizza.
This was shot on Main Street, at L. May Eatery. Hopefully I didn't spook anyone out by shooting pictures in the picture window as the diners enjoyed their romantic meals!
This is the foyer to the centre of the Trichur Pooram festivities- the Vadukkanathan Hindu temple. I loved the bright lighting and the overall festive feel of the place. And I really loved that tower in the foreground for oil lamps, which is a standard feature in most Kerala Hindu temples. Of course I did not attempt to go into the temple itself as I am not particularly religious, at any rate, it would have been total chaos inside, I had a large Nikon D90 dSLR around my neck which may cause some problems as most Hindu temples frown upon photography, I'd had a long day, and at any rate the main aim of this trip was to see the elephant parade! Week 43
The road trip to the party. I started this week off in Atlanta shooting a commercial for work. This was another one of those jobs that had us working on a beautiful golf course all day. There is something so amazing about these golf courses that I get to see. The scenery is so perfect that sometimes you almost can't believe your eyes. The job went well as usual and as soon as we wrapped we were back on the road heading home. We made it back on Wednesday night, just in time to help set up the office party for Friday. This was my first time going to one of these office parties due to me finally being of age. It was pretty amazing and I had a wonderful time though it is weird to watch a bunch of co-workers and people you have known your whole life to go completely crazy. On Saturday, the day after the party, I headed out with Eric, bought a new film camera, and shot some sunset scenes with him. Scott joined us later in the night and we ended up buying some pixie lights and tried to mimic the famous Instagram look that everyone likes to do. I think they turned out pretty cool!
I can't wait to see what this next week will bring!
