The Temple of Zeus, Aizanoi, near Çavdarhisar, Western Turkey. Believed to be constructed during the reign of Domitian 1st century AD (i think)
Glastonbury Abbey... After discovering the remains of King Arthur and Guinevere the abbot relocated the grave just beyond the main tower. Only a cynic would believe the finding of the once and future king's remains was a hoax in order to reboot the flagging coffers of the abbey after a fire. The remains were found in 1191.
Going through the red gates that you can see on a couple of my other photos, you're greeted with this magnificent view of the little castle.
Underneath the French doors on first floor (the same doors that feature further down my photostream) is a statue of Hercules holding up the balcony on his back. The guide book tells us that the balcony and French doors were installed by William Cavendish, who finished the interiors of the little castle in 1621.
I liked this view, the castle being framed by the large, imposing red gates. I think the fisheye effect adds to this framing as well as making more of the scene visible.
Another 2 version shot of the interior of the chapel at Clumber Park, Nottingham.
This was an area around the altar that was behind a gate (I'm sure there is a proper name for the gate between the altar area the main congregation area). The sunlight was streaming through the window and highlighting part of the altar. This is what I was trying to capture.
The tower from the ruined church of St Michael's on Glastonbury Tor, overlooking the Somerset Levels
I caught the sun shining through one of the windows in the lantern on the top floor of the little castle at Bolsover Castle and liked the way the light was shining on the ground in the shape of the glass.
Ruins of Glastonbury Abbey built in the 11th century. From memory I seem to recall reading that it was the tallest abbey/cathedral tower in England. Very tall...even if not the tallest.
Fountains Abbey, near Ripon, North Yorkshire. I believe tge largest monastic ruins in the country...
Ruins of a 19th century tin mine on the north Cornish coast...The Wheal Coates, near the village of St Agnes.
Monsignor Joseph Bosetti found this rock outside of a Rocky Mountain National Park in 1916 and, inspired by the biblical phrase, “upon this rock I will build my church,” decided this was the optimal location for his church. After 20 years and struggling with the Colorado Highway Dept. to preserve the rock, the land was donated to the Catholic Church and the chapel was finally completed in 1936.
Providing the scenic background is Mount Meeker.
Allenspark, Colorado.
