Stephen Colbert walked around at SDCC this year pitching a fake movie about a character called Prince Hawkcat.
This pattern came from Julie Jackson of Subversive Cross Stitch. I ordered the pattern as soon as it became available (July 06?), but due to another big project I was working on (as a Christmas gift), I didn't finish it until toady, 12/23/06 (I had it about 1/5th done before today).
I think I'm going to frame it and put it on my wall at work. I love Subversive's patterns!!!

Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C.
Stephen Colbert born 1964
Born Washington, D.C.
Stephen Colbert, the mock pundit for the Comedy Central show The Colbert Report recently contacted the National Portrait Gallery hoping to donate this portrait of himself from his show. While this triple portrait is not one that would typically be accessioned into the Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection, NPG agreed to go along with the joke and hang the portrait for a limited time.
In episodes of The Colbert Report that aired on January 10, 14, and 15, 2008, Colbert tries to convince the Smithsonian that he should be considered a national treasure. He attempts to donate his portrait to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, but the museum’s director suggests that perhaps Colbert should speak to the National Portrait Gallery. Finally, after much "discussion," the director of the National Portrait Gallery finds an appropriate place to hang Colbert’s portrait, in between the bathrooms and above the water fountain.

In July 2007, convenience store chain 7-Eleven converted this store on 42nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenue in midtown Manhattan, along with ten other stores in the United States and one in Canada into Kwik-E-Marts for promotion of The Simpsons Movie, which was released on July 27, 2007. These 12 locations, as well as the majority of other North American 7-Elevens, sold products found in The Simpsons, such as "Buzz Cola", "Krusty-O's" cereal, "Squishees" and "Pink Movie Donuts." Several other 7-Eleven items, such as sandwiches, are being sold in Simpsons-themed packaging. Another item is "Radioactive man Comic Book Edition #711", a special edition of the Radioactive Man series made by Bongo Comics. It was decided that Duff Beer would not be sold due to the movie being rated PG-13, and the promoters wanted to have "good, responsible fun,"though it was noted that it was a tough decision.

Stephen's set was decorated with, among other Canadiana, a full-size stuffed moose prop. At the end of the show, the crowd started chanting "Ride the moose! Ride the moose!" So he did (while waving the Canadian flag).
Jered "Speedy" Peterson would later win a silver medal in Freestyle Aerials at Cypress, with his signature Hurricane jump.

To get around the IOC's draconian licensing rules, The Colbert Report called its Vancouver 2010 Olympic shows: "Exclusive Vancouverage of the 2010/Quadrennial Cold Weather Athletic Competition/Defeat the World! " It's very similar to what LuluLemon called its non-authorized clothing line: "Cool Sporting Event That Takes Place in British Columbia Between 2009 & 2011 Edition"

Stephen reacts to the stock market dropping to 1997 levels by showing off his shiny new iMac. He admitted that the iMac was introduced in 1998, but that looks like an iMac DV to me, which came out in late '99. Screenshot from The Colbert Report, Tuesday February 24, 2009.

After the Alter conversation, the Colbert stuck around that the venue, a Montclair lounge on Bloomfield Avenue that used to be a theater (run by Olympia Dukakis!), to chat with friends.
No, I didn't get to meet him.
