The strap is slightly wider at the top end than at the bottom. Cut a point at the wider end and then cut a vertical slot (slit?) that is about as long as the strap is wide -- Slot A.
Cut 3 slots on the cover, each a little longer than the widest part of the strap.
Lay the strap down on your table, "wrong" side up, pointed end to the right.
Lay the book cover on the strap, "wrong" side up, pages to the right.
Thread the pointed end up through Slot #1.
Thread the skinnier end up through Slot #2.
