I turned a year older (36) on March 28th, and I spent it bouldering and climbing rocks with my favorite person in Joshua Tree.

This, too, is U.S.

Ponytails and skulls. Me on the weekends. It's probably not fashionably correct for a woman of 39 to sport either of these things, but it doesn't matter. It's me on the weekends. Not every shirt has skulls on it, some have beer or whiskey logos, but if they are cool I'd get 'em. I'm not ready to grow up, a part of me still likes to make silly noises, embarrass my daughter by dancing funny when we're in the super market, believe in Santa, and make Rice Crispy Treats. I think everyone needs to do something they did once again when they were a kid. Remember what it was like to wake up excited on Christmas morning, ride your bike with a playing card in the spokes to make it sound like a motorcycle, let go of a balloon and watch it float away and dream of where it will end up. Be a kid, wear what you want, dance, sing silly songs and LIVE!!! Is wearing Polyester co-ordinates really worth it??? :O)

"To remain young while growing old is the highest Blessing"

- German Proverb

I was digging around for a song with a good message for the New Year. Like an anthem or a mantra of sorts. Initially I thought Depeche Mode Get the Balance Right was it, but the more I listened to it, the more it struck me as jaded and sarcastic, maybe even a little fatalistic (But always remain ultimately selfish...When you reach the top, get ready to drop, prepare yourself for the fall, you’re gonna fall...). Maybe not completely wrong, but not the message I was looking for.

I traded in Get the Balance Right for a song off a fairly obscure album released in 1979 from a now fairly obscure artist (at least in the U.S.) Anybody heard of Bill Nelson? Be Bop Deluxe? When the album came out I was 15 years old! I recently repurchased it on CD (the original LP back cover is pictured here, sides cropped). I listened to it heavily earlier this month, on my iPod of course!

Unfortunately there's nowhere to download this song off the web - I checked iTunes and Musicmatch at least. Just go buy the CD! About $7 used off Amazon.com.

I've at least posted the lyrics here because you won't find them on the web either. If you're looking for a message for '06, then here you go! Don't forget it like I did for so many years! I've got to play catch-up now!

Stay Young

Bill Nelson's Red Noise - Sound on Sound

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a message

It's all important

Here comes the message

It says stay young

Stay young (x2)

And keep in touch

We're growing older

Time waits for no man

He might be bolder

We've got to

Stay young (x3)

And keep in touch

Some people wear youth like a mask

Some people like you

Some people don't care about that

Some people stay cool

Some people like you, oh, oh, you, oh, oh

Here is the warning

Stop, look and listen

This is your mission

You've got to stay young

Stay young

Stay young

And keep in touch

The styles are changing

It's so exciting

It's so inviting

For you to stay young

Stay young

Stay young

And keep in touch

Stay young (x3)

And keep in touch

cause we know just what we are and

come what may, we're unstoppable

I just got the We The Kings album. A little late I know. But these were inspired by a few songs.

I was.. bored. Haha.

Large?

HEY! Stay young and invincible. Come what may, we're unshakable.

You are never too old to become younger.
