empty wood train of TX Logistik Sverige at Eslöv. Aftr loading it will depart for Fliskär. Forst is TMX 1042 leased from Svensk Tagkraft AB, second is 185 704 leased from Railpool.
Twice a week Baneservice Sverige haules a sand train Halmstad - Limmared under contract with Green Cargo. The sand is going to the Ardagh glas production plant in Limmared. Baneservice is using the recently overhauled TMY 1111 for this train. It is owned by Svensk Tagkraft AB (STAB). it lost its original EMD-motor several years ago when it was replaced by a Cummins-motor. on the picture the loaded sand train 60064 to Limmared east of Forsheda.
This site has become a stopping place for me. I use it to spend the last moments of daylight to expose the last frame or two or the last sheet left in a holder.
Returning again and again to the same spot allows me to attempt different things with different lenses and emulsions. It's never exactly revelatory, but I enjoy the sense of finality.
The day is done. The sun is setting. The air is cooler. The dayhikers have gone home. It is me and Umatilla Rock at the base of Grand Coulee with millions of years of history surrounding.
And with each photo taken here, I make some sort of stab towards what I would do differently next time. And whatever I decide, I'll likely forget anyway, especially at the end of a day.
This is not a complaint. This is how I like it to be. The true revision comes not in revising, but in re-doing.

The Ponderosa Pine Needles were up to their old tricks again this year, trying to stab the flowers on their way to the ground.
One of the weirdest birds I know. Looks like some kind of prehistoric cormorant. Fish prey are 'stabbed' rather than seized and the bird has to catch and throw them into the air in order to swallow them. Unlike ducks and other water birds, the feathers are not oily: they need to absorb water so that the bird sinks, the better to dive for its fish prey. So, like cormorants, after a fishing expedition the anhinga needs to spread its wings to dry itself. Anhingas are widely distributed in wetlands from the southern United States to Uruguay. There are similar species in Africa, Asia and Australia.

Reddish egret. There were 3 foraging together in this small fresh water marsh. I have never seen 3. They were all in the same eyeball view at times. The next day, according to eBird, there were none, being replaced by a Roseate Spoonbill. Some times they would do their classic dance while foraging, and other times they would just stab for a fish. It was a very active morning, with great subjects, and great opportunities. The only thing that could have been better was a more light friendly opening in the vegetation along the shore.
Whether poised at a river bend or cruising the coastline with slow, deep wingbeats, the Great Blue Heron is a majestic sight. This stately heron with its subtle blue-gray plumage often stands motionless as it scans for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. They may move slowly, but Great Blue Herons can strike like lightning to grab a fish or snap up a gopher. In flight, look for this widespread heron’s tucked-in neck and long legs trailing out behind.
Largest of the North American herons with long legs, a sinuous neck, and thick, dagger like bill. Head, chest, and wing plumes give a shaggy appearance. In flight, the Great Blue Heron curls its neck into a tight “S” shape; its wings are broad and rounded and its legs trail well beyond the tail.
Great Blue Herons appear blue-gray from a distance, with a wide black stripe over the eye. In flight, the upper side of the wing is two-toned: pale on the fore-wing and darker on the flight feathers.
Hunting Great Blue Herons wade slowly or stand statue-like, stalking fish and other prey in shallow water or open fields. Watch for the lightning-fast thrust of the neck and head as they stab with their strong bills. Their very slow wing-beats, tucked-in neck and trailing legs create an unmistakable image in flight.

This is the first time I've posted this particular "crane dance" behavior where the crane pulls up vegetation and jumps at extreme angles. The identification comes from my "Sandhill Crane Display Dictionary", a must have item for all Sandhill Crane admirers.

From Wikipedia: The cocoi heron (Ardea cocoi) is a species of long-legged wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae found across South America. It has predominantly pale grey plumage with a darker grey crest. A carnivore, it hunts fish and crustaceans in shallow water.
Feeding: This heron feeds primarily on fish over 20 cm (8 in) long; with mammals, amphibians and sometimes insects also being consumed. Fish species consumed include whitemouth croaker, wolf fish, various Leporinus species up to 200 mm long and streaked prochilod. This heron has also been observed to feed on carrion and Callinectes blue crabs. In Colombia, chicks have also been observed being fed predominantly fish and less frequently with amphibians and crustaceans.
The cocoi heron catches prey by striking its head into the water and thrusting its bill to stab downwards. It may also tilt its head downward above the water so that only its bill is immersed. During feeding, the head and neck move rapidly while the body remains immobile. Feeding is usually diurnal and solitary, especially in Argentina, although in Chile, it is considered to be a largely nocturnal feeder, with diurnal roosting taking place in trees overlooking the water. In Venezuela, it has also been seen foraging in large groups. Where feeding is diurnal, there appears to be a peak in feeding activity at noon and a reduction at dusk.
The cocoi heron appears able to use alternative food sources by exploring foraging sites distant from its breeding colonies, since terrestrial rodents and reptiles and marine organisms have been found in the diet of individuals from freshwater colonies. Some colonies also reside near to estuarine coastland and individuals from these colonies are more reliant on marine prey. Foraging individuals often stay near to colonies and colony site choice has been found to be strongly linked to proximity to high-quality foraging habitats. The heron may also sometimes exploit dead whitemouth croaker discarded by recreational fisheries
