I captured this beautiful bloom on an orchid tree in full bloom on the island of St.Lucia.

Bauhinia variegata is a species of flowering plant in the legume family, Fabaceae. It is native to an area from China through Southeast Asia to the Indian subcontinent. Common names include orchid tree and mountain ebony.

A closer crop of a previously posted photo, which I think looks a bit better.

A composite of 4 shots taken over a couple of seconds of a male Magnificent Frigate Bird fly-by.

Not 'Santa Loucheeah' as the Neapolitan song goes, just Snt-Loosha ;)

View of the pool from our balcony at the Bay Garden Resort.

We were there for a week and couldn't leave the resort due to Covid restrictions. Nothing to do but go to the beach everyday and drink rum punch, so not exactly an imposition.

I've spent a lot of time in St. Lucia and continue to go back, so I'm always posting more pictures of this beautiful Caribbean island. Click this link to see my full album www.flickr.com/photos/tpridemore/albums/72157625551418563

Some meaningful equipment on board.

About 8 years ago, I learned of my Swedish heritage, and recent events (and new friends) have inspired me to learn about said heritage.

According to legend, St. Lucia was an early-4th-century virgin martyr under the Diocletianic Persecution who brought food and aid to Christians hiding in the Roman catacombs. She wore a candle-lit wreath on her head to light her way and to leave her hands free to carry as much food as possible.

Natten går tunga fjät

rund gård och stuva;

kring jord, som sol förlät,

skuggorna ruva.

Då i vårt mörka hus,

stiger med tända ljus,

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.

Natten går stor och stum

nu hörs dess vingar

i alla tysta rum

sus som av vingar.

Se, på vår tröskel står

vitklädd med ljus i hår

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.

Mörkret ska flykta snart

ur jordens dalar

så hon ett underbart

ord till oss talar.

Dagen ska åter ny

stiga ur rosig sky

Sankta Lucia, Sankta Lucia.

(Engelska)

Night walks with a heavy step

Round yard and hearth,

As the sun departs from earth,

Shadows are brooding.

There in our dark house,

Walking with lit candles,

Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia!

Night walks grand, yet silent,

Now hear its gentle wings,

In every room so hushed,

Whispering like wings.

Look, at our threshold stands,

White-clad with light in her hair,

Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia!

Darkness shall take flight soon,

From earth’s valleys.

So she speaks a

Wonderful Word to us:

A new day will rise again

From the rosy sky…

Santa Lucia, Santa Lucia!

Not mine, sent by a friend, local not tourist.

This was taken on a "sunset cruise" in St. Lucia on my honeymoon. The sky's colors were unlike any I had ever seen, it was awesome.

Normally I wouldn't take a picture of just the sky and the sea, but I couldn't resist here.

Marigot Bay on the island of St. Lucia in the southern Caribbean.

A magical place where my wife and I spent a wonderful morning on the beach that is just below the palm trees in the center of this shot......

If you have a moment, I hope you'll take a second to "getaway" from it all by viewing this at the larger size linked below:

The splendor of St. Lucia is accentuated by the dramatic finale of an intense rainbow, gracefully descending over the island. The radiant spectrum of colors arcs across the sky, culminating in a vivid and enchanting display that adds a touch of magic to the tropical landscape.

As the rainbow gracefully reaches its end, the scene unfolds with a charming view of colorful houses along the shore. The vibrant hues of the houses, juxtaposed against the deep blue waters, create a picturesque waterfront that reflects the lively and tropical spirit of St. Lucia. Fishing boats dot the shoreline, adding a touch of authenticity to the coastal scene.

This photograph captures the harmonious blend of natural beauty and vibrant human settlements on the island. It encapsulates the essence of St. Lucia's coastal charm, where the convergence of a mesmerizing rainbow, colorful architecture, and the serene presence of fishing boats creates a scene of pure visual delight.
