Amazing how the produce of autumn matches the colors in the surround like tress and grasses.
I had no idea that this was a Newfoundland word until one day I went to look it up in the dictionary. (I know...why would someone do this but I tend to be a word nerd.) Well, my definition of the word 'squish' was not found in Webster or any other until I checked out my Newfoundland Dictionary. (Yes, there is one, I have it, and it is huge!) So here it is as I know it, "asquish (also squish, squish-ways): aslant; diagonally; awry; askew; out of alignment; in desperate straits."

Taken on an eighties 300mmm prime lens at extreme low light. It was a cold morning with aperture opened wide, ISO pushed to the highest for the combination of what the sensor and lens can handle and lowest speed I could hold on t this heavy beast, this is when I need VR.

Shorefast Foundation's Squish Studio near Tilting, NL. Fogo Island boast excellent hiking trails with gorgeous coastal landscapes.+
The title comes from a 1969 book by the street preacher, David Wilkerson (The Cross and the Switchblade). Wilkerson was ministering to Hippies, Yippies and Freakniks, many of whom experimented with psychedelic substances. On one occasion a long haired young man just down from an acid trip was asked, "What is your concept of God?" The answer given was, "God is purple violet squish."

Squish Studio is located a short hike from the town of Tilting on Fogo Island. As I mentioned before, these four studios are for resident artists. The studios are for work, and although they all have kitchens and sleeping areas, each artist is also assigned a home in the nearby town. One of the things I loved about the studios is that none of them (except Tower Studio, which is visible from the road) is visible from the nearest town, nor is the town visible from the studio.

White-throated Sparrow dining on a Honeysuckle berry in my rear yard. While otherwise common and a few may over-winter, seeing a member of this species is considered rare for December.

Here’s another angle on the beautiful Squish Studio. This is the last of image I’ll post in this series on the Fogo Island artist studios and the last image from Newfoundland. It seems appropriate that this image is the last because some people say this studio looks like an iceberg sticking up from the water and, of course, the first images I posted from the trip were of icebergs.
