Squints, small openings in the internal walls, were used by priests attending at side altars at the end of the aisles or in chantry chapels to synchronise with those at the high altar.

Ellie always squints. I think she's part siamese. That would explain the endless mewing, tendency to knock things off onto the floor, and licking everything.
