Fledgling Blue tit – Day 1
We noticed some time ago that one of the nest boxes in our garden had been taken over by a pair of blue tits. Returning home on Saturday lunchtime we found that the normal blue tit activity had ceased.
Saturday afternoon was spent doing one or two odd jobs (during the breaks in my tea consumption) and whilst sat at the end of the garden I heard the unmistakable sound of a blue tit. It took me some time to work it out but the fledgling tit was in a bush about 2 metres from where I was sat - it was being visited by both parents frequently. I grabbed a few shots and then moved the garden furniture further away so as not to disturb them.

Daddy covered in cats. I'm certain the cats are genuinely cold as we keep the heat at 65-F during the winter and the particular room where this was shot is the coldest in the house (thanks to three exterior walls).
That is Basil upon my chest, Mercedes sitting upon my leg and Squints in my lap.
This was Basil's default position for about the last three years of his life. He was constantly with me. This is probably the only benefit to be derived from my unemployed status.

St Mary, Ickworth, Suffolk
The church and churchyard are marooned on the National Trust's Ickworth estate. A pleasing and interesting interior, the result of three major restorations in the 1780s, 1830s and 1910s.
The Herveys, Earls and Marquesses of Bristol, a family with more than their fair share of colourful characters, are buried in the vault. The church was declared redundant in 1984 and bought by the Hervey family, but it lay closed, abandoned and near-derelict until the current Marquess oversaw a major restoration between 2010 and 2012, costing well over a million pounds. The church is now usually open every day.
