it worked for me...mostly. it worked spectacularly well with quilting cottons. it didn't work so well with upholstery/home dec fabrics or on more than 5 or 6 yards of any one fabric.

oh boy.
well, this is what my fabric stash used to look like. for a long, long time. it actually used to look worse until i got those "gorilla" shelves from sam's club in january. before that i used bookshelves, which worked okay i guess. i don't know.
all i know is that fabric is extraordinarily difficult to organize and to keep tidy.
I -think- this is all of them. Four different welcome to yahoo packets from over the years. I think there might actually be one missing. That's got to be some sort of record :P

an entire shelf full of upholstery/home dec samples. the folding technique worked really well with these. on the bottom shelf are wools/cashmeres.
