Members of National Interdiction Unit Team 10 and Marines with Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, wait for helicopters before a raid on a suspected opium production facility here, March 22, 2012. The raid was part of Operation Psarlay Taba, a partnered counternarcotics operation conducted by the NIU and 2nd Bn., 9th Marines, to disrupt narcotics trafficking around Helmand province’s Marjah district. The partnered force captured around 26,000 pounds of assorted opium products over the course of the four-month operation.

In the staff meeting I asked "Is anyone else having a hard time working this week?" Most people nodded, referring to the insatiable urge to be in the sun. Suggested solutions included leaving the office for a walk or for throwing a football. None of them included actually working.
Since I had spent all day inside at work, I didn't really want to go inside for class during the last daylight hours. I frolicked outside instead, finally meeting my neighbors, picking up my library books and drinking a really good 22 of beer while watching a ridiculous British Bollywood-style adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.
I fell asleep to the sounds of spring at night.
