One thing that struck me by my time in Chilean Patagonia was how different things look today versus fifty years ago, or even ten years ago! The glaciers have retreated at an alarming rate, leaving mountain tops barer than ever and fresh lakes where there was ice before. A series of forest fires that have ripped through the landscape in the last twenty years have created scenes like this, in which the charred white tree trunks stick up as ghostly remnants of previously virgin forests.

I assume that is his mate in the shadow, but the lighting makes it almost look like she is just a shadow.
