King Leopold II wanted a special trainstation near the Royal Castle des Ardennes that he and his father Leopold I had erected (finished in 1874). It took till 1896 for the railroad between Dinant-Bertrix to be finished and in 1898 this special train station was opened.. but not for the public. Later Leopold II had the castle converted into a very luxurious hotel and the very rich could descend at the royal station.
In 1919, after the devastations of World War I, both the hotel and station were closed. The hotel re-opened in 1921, but the station remaind closed forever. The hotel was in use till 1949. In 1969 it burned down and in the 1970ties most buildings and towers of the site were demolished. This old station did however survive.
