Here it is again the little bundle of cuteness on a flower covered in pollen. I am sure it will be most annoyed with me now and soon sitting back on a blade of grass cleaning it all off!
I am well pleased with my diffuser creation and the fact that it has 2 diffusion panels. Not just one on the front.
This is a 4 image hand held focus stack. The idea of F8 was to try maximize DOF as even though not a fast mover still does not hardly pause for long this lens they say is at its sharpest at F5.6.
I picked the flower walking past a local church as I felt the colors where suited to this little one.

I wanted to get a clean stack all I needed is for her to sit still for long enough. I am grateful that she did. I am well pleased with this image of her
The lens was set to the 2:1 setting which means this is a 4:1 with a 2x crop factor applied makes it pretty much an 8x greater than life size.
I always apply a 5:4 ratio crop in post and start that in Helicon.
I am currently printing on my 3d printer an adapter I for the Olympus MCON-P02 Macro converter that has a little hood on it. I am looking forward to seeing how that goes once I have all of the bits printed. Designing is much fun and fixing 3d printers I think sometimes can be a good test for ones patience.

Spare a thought for this bloke. spent the last few days in my shower.
Was so traumatizing for him watching me shower he must have bitten 2 legs off!
Unless he lost a wrap battle with the Dolophones down the street and the looser had to watch me shower for a few days.. Not sure...

I picked up a new addition to my slow growing macro kit this week.
A 2x tele converter. I was using tele converters a long time ago for automated focus stacking and had watched things like the 90mm OM systems lens be launched and the fact it worked with a tele converter was exciting for me and many others.
I took a long time to catch the bus but better late than never.
I am quite impressed with sharpness using the MC-20 with the 90mm and what is achievable hand held blows me away.
I look forward to getting more practice in using this kit.

Flower Crab Spider feeding on a green bottle fly
I seem to have a good supply of both on my Butterfly Bush , Which smells absolutely incredible by the way and out of all of my plants has the most activity on it.
69 images where manually gathered for this focus bracketed shot that was assembled in Helicon Focus before moving into Adobe PS for minimal post work.
We could all be purists if we wanted to be you know SOOC guys and girls but why would we when we have such amazing tools at our disposal?
I am getting ready to open the oven door and turn my roast.

Quite a small one I found yesterday. I only found it due to taking a closer look after seeing its silk all over a nearby grass seed head. It was very well hidden and was picked up after I blew in the area and it moved.

Some cool markings on this wolfie from tonight.
A new flash to play around with. The change to sequential low from sequential high is not a deal breaker. Stacking is still fun.
I do have an uncanny way of putting both this flash and the V1 into Multi mode with my forehead if I forget to lock it.
The plan is to do some serious usage and then do an honest comparison between the 2 godox units.
1/250 --- F8 --- ISO200 Flash was at 1/128
I prefer the modelling light too it is cooler

One of the more relaxed SP-- I tried with a smaller Maratus Griseus the other day but it was very hot and he was VERY active.
I recently designed and 3D printed a mod for my 90mm macro lens.
3 iterations and this is what I am happy with. It seems to improve the image quality which is what I was after.
I need to fix up the minor hot area in my catch light there which will be done today. Phew Lucky as one will be off to the UK later today so I am glad to have figured that out first..
This is a 41 image hand held manual focus bracket. Not a super clean stack it was only made to see the improvement of light and the result of it in the eyes of my most fav subject.
There is a crop on this. She is around 6mm in length.

I decided to go check the burrow of that female Wolf spider that I have made some amazing images of lately. I was 30 feet from her dwelling place when I see 2 sets of eyes. I made my way closer and one took off and this male remained.
I am 80% certain this is a Banded Union Jack wolf spider Tasmanicosa ramosa ..
And I am pretty sure I came upon them having a bit of a get together. It was just starting to rain which was a bit of a downer as I lost sight of this one and looking around all I could see was rain drops glistening in the dark. BUT I am looking forward to seeing her with babies down the track!! And they will be amazing babies I mean look at him!!...

Urban Macro in the wild west of Wodonga.
Walking down Melrose drive I hear rap and next minute I see wrap.
This Dolophones SP - Wrap-around spider must have been in a wrap battle with another male by the looks. Not sure who won but it is now on a bit of a lean as he has a bung leg. I would call him I-lean but thats a Girls name. I dont know if he identifies as a wrap master or a toaster but I do not want to offend him.

I am pleased with the results I get now after changing the way I gather images for my focus stacked images.
I love my Butterfly Bush it is giving me lots of enjoyment to look at and when looking closer it has so much going on. Impressive to see an eco system developing in a yard that was bare a year ago and amazing to see how critters can just move on in.

Stunning little orbs. This one seemed gravid. Also to get up so close to them and photograph without smashing the highlights because of the insanely bright white or loosing the other end of the histogram because of the incredibly deep glossy black is a fun challenge. This one is a manual hand held focus stack. The blue on her "Spikes" is a pretty nice surprise. It has been interesting adding the ability to change the angle of my diffusion panel and reflector for the lighting.

She is feeding on a Butterfly of the "Blues" Family (Lycaenidae)
Teaming with life this thing. I only planted it a year ago and its over 6 feet tall and providing me with loads of entertainment. Plus the flowers are the sweetest smelling I have ever um yeah you get it. I have to admit the sniff test on my new 90mm was pretty good too.

From my morning walk.. I stopped to explore a hanging branch on a gum tree. I noticed this thing sticking up. At first glance I thought it might be another one of those case moth towers they build but then I thought I might just make a quick image and zoom in on this to see.

At one point this decided to move along and it was still cool weather it seemingly tripped over its huge attachment!! I was wondering if this has that big tall flag pole attract something that eats the contents of the case moth cocoons?

The frame was filled at 1:1 with the listed equipment. In post production I cropped to my taste a 5:1 ratio and due to a little movement in focus stacking I added a small amount to the canvas up the top for composition.
100 images where loaded into the manual focus stack or bracket if you want to call it that. Loading in 100 does not mean it needed that many. Its hand held and I am not going through them all to pick them out unless the stack fails due to movement.

From this mornings walk that did not last very long as I found this amazing little Dolophones on a bit of grass. I was excited to see if I could get a nice deep stack after noticing it has a flagpole on its back.
I went looking for a stick with some moss on it once I had that I had my needed ingredients. I used a cardboard box for the background which worked very well. I waited patiently trying to coax this guy into a nice spot. After several tries it seems it decided to get into the most awesome position ever and allowed me enough time to brace myself and capture 70 images it was almost as if it knew I had what I needed as I had just enough time to rattle off 70 and it moved.
I am so pleased with this image.
70 hand held images where loaded into Adobe PS for stacking.
The spider was released exactly where it was found unharmed and famous on social media.

An addition to my diffuser yesterday was something I did plan on doing it was not at the highest of priorities. Is the adding in of material at lens level to subtract and shape the catchlight so it does not reflect the lens and look like a pupil when you Photograph a Jumping Spider.
All I needed to do was test it out.
Good thing this Helpis SP - Jumping Spider was cooperative today as it is warming up and becoming very active now this time of the day anyway...
One slight change to be made and I am happy with the catchlight. I want to make the bottom of it feather and not a hard line. Already know how..
The rest of the difuser is very close to me being able to make a final version and call it a day. Maybe offer for sale if any are interested.

He was 6 feet up a Gum tree!! And very well camouflaged.
Sticks out well here though in a studio setting on a white daisy and blue background!
He will be offered a feed in the morning and put back exactly where he was found Unharmed!

It always amazes me that no matter how many times you go to a location you can always manage to find something new.
This evening I went out searching with a new friend and it did not take long for us to find a crazy Beetle I have never seen before or heard of. Bombardier Beetle!!
Not long after around the other side of the tree to be exact was this Huntsman female. If you are scratching your head trying to work out if Helicon did a terrible job or not that would be understandable.
She is in fact missing 2 eyes!! It is no stacking error. It is the craziest thing I have ever seen!!

Went out for a look with the camera gear.
91 images loaded into Adobe PS for the hand-held manual focus bracket.
Rather gruesome scene if you look close.
I was not aware that 2 males where present and I got them both without even noticing and then shortly after I Photographed a female that was very nearby.
I call this one Evanda and the other one I named Mike.
