I hadn't played with my orb from Monique in awhile, so while I had the tulips and the sun was shining for a few minutes, I took it outside and had some fun :)

In Antelope Canyon, Arizona
Antelope Canyon is a "slot" canyon, a chasm deep in the earth, carved and sculpted by nature.
There are 2, upper and lower.
We went to the lower.
It's deeper and more narrow. At some points it opens up, at other places the path is no wider than your foot.
It twists and turns, the walls swirl and twirl.
It's another world, it's mesmeric, it's encaptivating, it's art, it's poetry, it enchants.
It's spellbinding.
My son took this with a little gadget he has for his camera that gives a wide perspective....and some distortion.
I'll post a few photos in comments if interested in viewing.
They are all point and clicks, but you'll get an idea of this marvel.
Spellbound...how one feels when looking out across this view of Iceland’s Thingvellir National Park....
Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Washington
I was finally able to get out hiking again yesterday, and after a more adventurous than anticipated hike to a magical waterfall (more on that in an upcoming post), I descended into the beautifully forested lower section of the trail. There were no other hikers around at that time, so I was enveloped in the hush of the winter woodland, quiet save for the occasional sound of a bird call. Surrounded by trees in every direction, I breathed in the deep, rich scent of the forest.
As I hiked along, I noticed wisps of fog starting to float through the trees, dancing in and out among the trunks and branches. The sun was rapidly dropping toward the mountain peaks that would soon obscure its light, and as it slid down through the sky, the rays filtered through the forest canopy and caught the fog tendrils, as though playing a game of tag.
The sunlit fog seemed to illuminate the woods with a warm and beckoning light, and I suddenly felt as if I had been transported to an enchanted forest where everything shimmered with light and life and magical possibility.
All too soon the moment was over as the sun dropped behind the nearby mountains, and the forest returned to a state of being simply foggy and cold as the winter darkness rapidly approached.

Gothic duck
Nah, not really. I saw this beauty at the river and, spellbound by its unique looks, crouched down to take photos. Meanwhile, I heard two women behind me talking about this duck. They were wondering if the plumage was real or if someone or something had colored the feathers black. Not knowing myself what this duck was and what species, I kept my mouth shut. At night, I looked on the Internet for info and found out that the plumage was indeed iridescent black and not caused by some kind of ink. Most likely, this gorgeous bird is called a Cayuga Duck. I haven't found any other species even remotely similar to this duck. Why am I still not 100% positive that it is indeed a Cayuga Duck? Well, the Cayuga is classified as a small to medium size duck, but this one was rather large, about the size of a goose. Hm...

Nee, eigentlich nicht. Ich sah diese Schönheit am Fluß und, verzaubert von ihrem einzigartigen Aussehen, ging ich in die Hocke und machte Fotos. Währenddessen hörte ich hinter mir zwei Frauen über die Ente reden. Sie fragten sich, ob das Gefieder echt sei, oder ob irgendjemand oder irgendetwas die Federn schwarz gefärbt hatten. Da ich selbst nicht wußte, was diese Ente war oder welche Spezies, hielt ich meinen Mund. Am Abend suchte ich nach Info im Internet und fand heraus, dass das Gefieder tatsächlich schillernd schwarz ist und nicht durch eine Art Tinte verursacht wurde. Mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit handelt es sich bei diesem wunderschönen Vogel um eine Smaragdente. Ich habe sonst keine andere Spezies gefunden, die auch nur annähernd dieser Ente ähnelt. Warum bin ich dann immer noch nicht 100% sicher, dass es tatsächlich eine Smaragdente ist? Nun, weil die Smaragedente als klein- bis mediumgroß klassifiziert ist, aber diese hier ziemlich groß war, mehr die Größe einer Gans. Hm...

Explored Sept 20, 2011 - Highest position #34 (apparently made front page but I missed it)
Seeing this iconic landmark during the middle of the day is one thing; the views are spectacular, and the geology is fascinating, but taking the time to be there when the sun rises is truly an awe inspiring & speechless event. A must see in Lightbox...just hit the letter "L" on your keyboard :-)
