On the bill are two of the most celebrated matadors, Juan Belmonte and Ignacio Sánchez Mejías. The latter's fame was magnified when, after his death on August 13, 1934 following a goring in the Plaza of Manzanares, he was memorialized by several Spanish poets of the Generation of '27. The best known poem was by Federico García Lorca with his "Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías" ("Lament for Ignacio Sánchez Mejías", sometimes translated under the title "Lament for the Death of a Bullfighter")
