Lockheed Martin-Built GOES-U Weather Satellite Successfully ...NOAA's GOES-U satellite successfully launched on June 25, 2024, at 5:26 p.m. EDT aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center, Florida. As the final satellite in the GOES-R series, it reached geostationary orbit on July 7, 2024, and was renamed GOES-19.

"Each year, dating back to 1918, Virginia Tech (then VPI) would meet rival Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in a football game played Thanksgiving Day. VMI had a cannon named “Little John,” which it would fire every time the Keydets scored, while their cadets chanted: “Where’s your cannon?”
In the early 1960s, Homer “Sonny” Hickam ’64, Alton “Butch” Harper ’64, and George Fox ’64 tired of the smack talk and decided to fire back. Armed with a plan to “build the biggest cannon the world had ever seen,” the trio collected extra brass from cadets’ uniform items as well as shell casings from the firing range, which they would melt for the gun. Foundry owner Paul Huffman, an alumnus of the Corps of Cadets, cast the cannon at no charge.
When the cadets learned of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, this gave birth to the name Skipper, which had two meanings: first to honor JFK, as he had been a skipper in the U.S. Navy, and also as an inside joke for the cadets (Skipper was a nickname for senior cadet privates who had gotten in trouble.) At the 1963 VMI vs. Virginia Tech game, 50 cadets hauled Skipper from underneath the bleachers and fired the gun.
The cannon suffered a blowout in 1982, so in 1984, Paul Huffman Jr. ’78, whose father had cast the original Skipper, offered to fabricate a new cannon at no charge. Skipper II is based on a Confederate Civil War cannon. Its design compares to a 3-inch ordnance cannon, which is 70 inches long and weighs about 800 pounds."

Titan Pipeline Defence
I joined the Octan Security Services straight out of the Spaceforce. After a four year tour on Earth's moon trying to keep the locals under control while resentment of Earth-gov control became endemic. The final uprising, caused by a Spaceforce ship crashing into a school bus was nasty and I saw things. Things no one should see, things I won't talk about.
So here I am on Titan, sixth moon of Saturn, where the rocks are made of water, hard as granite and the rivers and lakes are liquid hydrocarbons, methane and ethane, all the 'thanes' as Gunther puts it. Gunther is my boss here, he basically sits in the control room and tells us where the Meth-Roaches are swarming, he's okay, pretty messed up from stuff he saw on the moon too though.
Meth-Roaches? Yeah, well when humans got here to Titan there was no life, not even bacteria. Great for the oil companies of course, nothing for the hippies to protest about. The Mars settlers wanted to burn hydrocarbons to create an atmosphere, the oil companies had a nice new supply of them. All great, but 'life finds a way' as that old movie put it. The bacteria mutated first, but we weren't watching for that then the roaches first learned to cope with the intense cold, then somehow their mitochondrial DNA started to run on methane instead of oxygen. The scientists tell me it was probably from eating the bacteria. Then they took the moon for themselves, titanic Roaches on Titan. Almost funny.
Most of them eat the bacteria or each other, the problem is the pipelines are slightly warmer, so the bacteria grow more around them, the Methane Roaches (Meth-Roaches) chomp on it, lots of leaks follow.
So I'm a bug squisher! We can shoot them if there's good cause, but firing lasers has a small chance of igniting the landscape (if we hit a pocket of frozen oxygen) and the gattling-railgun is hard to get ammunition for, so we generally stamp on them, they crunch quite satisfyingly. The pays pretty good, too and there are no Lunar-citizens throwing IED's at me. In another five years when my contract is done I should be able to buy a house in an area of Earth where the environment is still reasonable or maybe Mars, lots of room on Mars. Life is good.

Since we are a rich nation, more rich than the USA, we need a bigger force than just the Airforce, thats why we go for the Spaceforce .... hehehehehehe......

"Lane Hall, originally known as Barracks No. 1, contains offices for disciplines in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. It is the centerpiece building of the Upper Quad.
For the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, it's still considered home. Today's cadets continue a 120-year-old tradition by standing retreat in front of the hall each evening. One of the oldest buildings on campus, Lane still bears hundreds of signatures scratched into its bricks and mortar by cadets. Some of those etchings date back more than 100 years.
In the 1950s, Barracks No. 1 was renamed for Gen. James H. Lane, first commandant of cadets and professor of military tactics from 1872 to 1881. The Civil War veteran was a stern disciplinarian who expected students to toe the mark, both in the classroom and in the ranks. His fistfight with the college president led to an erosion of public confidence in the school and one of the blackest periods in the life of the college.
Originally known as Barracks No. 1, Lane Hall was completed in 1888 and revolutionized campus amenities with bathrooms containing hot and cold running water. The hazing of rats (first-year cadets) seems to have blossomed in Barracks No. 1 since the building layout created an environment for upperclassmen to develop “extracurricular controls” over the rats. The barracks housed 130 students until it was converted to academic office use in 1967, ending 78 years of use as barracks. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015." This SW8 was part of an order of 41 such locomotives by the US Army in early 1951 to support the Korean War. The locomotives were all shipped across the Pacific to aid in motive power on the Korean National Railroad. After the war, some of the locomotives stayed in South Korea, while most returned back to the US for service on military bases.
This particular SW8, along with two others (USAX 2000 & 2007), was eventually given to the Air Force for service in the Titan IV program. Using a set of parallel tracks, a pair of SW8's would pull Titan rockets from their assembly building to the launch pad (performing the same function that the Space Shuttle's crawler later performed). In order to operate in tandem, these Air Force locomotives were equipped with MU cables that were connected via swing arms. This allowed the locomotives to synchronize while operating side-by-side.
After the last Titan IV launch in 2005, USAF 2021 was cosmetically restored by NASA Railroad employees and then moved in 2006 to where it is currently displayed at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum.

En route to Spring Valley, NJ Transit ALP-45DP no. 4502 glistens in the sun as it crosses the Hackensack River. The locomotive sports a wrap saluting the six branches of the Armed Forces, complete with American flag and bald eagle.
United States Space Force
Formed in December of 2019, the USSF is a branch of the US AIr Force. Although its mission is public knowledge, much of its activity and infrastructure is unknown except to the highest levels of the military and government. With gravity plating being engineered in the 1950's, the only constraint was the quantity of rare earth elements. There had only been several square feet of plating, no more than a standard bath-mat, but enough to prove the technology. Thus the missions to the Moon. Once acquired, designs for a secret fleet of manned ships in permanent orbit would be feasible.
With a crew of five to ten, the latest and most advanced ships are capable of multiple missions. Armed with nuclear and kinetic weapons for terrestrial targets, and phalanx and ship to ship missiles, these ships are both offensive and defensive platforms.
General George J. Stennard was a Union general during the US Civil War. He was in command of the Vermont Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg. The Vermont Brigade was known for stopping Pickett's Charge, July 3rd, 1863, winning the battle and stopping the invasion of Washington, DC. In spite of the cynicism surrounding the US Space Force, the mission, beginning 1982 as the US Space Command, has been crucial to the US and allied security. Thus, like her namesake, the Stannard and her crew may be the most important ship and soldiers you've never heard of.

Virginia Tech's Upper Quad is historically the home of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. Under the guidance of its previous Commandant, Major General Randal Fullhart (USAF retired,) enrollment in the Corps of Cadets increased dramatically, and the brick Cold War-era buildings that were not on the historic register were torn down and replaced with taller, larger dormitories with Hokie Stone façades more closely resembling some of Virginia Tech's other architecture. His crowning construction achievement is the new Corps Leadership and Military Science Building, now located between Major Williams and Shanks Halls, and the Virginia Tech Power Plant, visible in the background of the photo.

On November 10, 2025, MTA Metro-North Railroad unveiled recently overhauled MNCW P32AC-DM 216 in a new veterans wrap at its North White Plains Yard. The design of the wrap includes embroidered name tapes with the names of all six branches of the United States Military on the background of a mural of military vehicles. Towards the front of the locomotive, it transitions to the stars and stripes of the flag of the United States. The locomotive is the eighth in the "Metro-North Heritage Fleet" series, honoring the 40th Anniversary of MNR's creation in 1983. The locomotive will be on display for the public on November 11 & 12, 2025, in Grand Central Terminal on Track 27, and is planned to be on display at various employee facilities before entering revenue service next week.

The Zentaur class have long operated as excellent utility ships for the German spaceforce, thanks to their modular hardpoints. This particular vessel operates a powerful scanner suite but is only armed with four small turbolasers housed in cylindrical towers on either side of the vessel's radomes and must rely on the large engine suites common the Zentaur class.

A ULA Atlas V lifting off from Cape Canaveral Air Force carrying the AEHF-6 communications satellite.
A wonderful depiction of what look like ‘fighter’ spaceplanes rounding the limb of Mars. Patrolling? Setting up for a photon bombing/laser strafing run? In pursuit of Cosmos 9309? Scrambling to intercept an alien intruder? Although, if any of the above, I would’ve expected the USAF roundel to be prominent on the vehicles.
Although the overall popular design of the spacecraft was oft-depicted, I’ve not been able to find this anywhere. It also looks like it might’ve been destined to grace the cover of one of the popular ‘space age’ magazines of the mid/late 1950s - early 1960s, or possibly a sci-fi novel of the time. The precisely marked outline along the periphery of the image, with the fiducial markings, makes me consider – and I’m talking out my ass right now – that this may’ve been the proof photo used for one of the aforementioned.
The verso bears the repeating letters/logo of "EKC". This Eastman Kodak Company backprint technique pre-dates the vintage & coveted "A KODAK PAPER" watermark. which also supports my date range guess.
Finally & thankfully, the artist’s signature is present. So, regardless of what this is, it’s a WIN - Thomas Albin. As a bonus and against the odds, there’s a single reference to him, well written/articulated, at:

A ULA Atlas V rises above a cluster of spectating boats in the Banana River during yesterday's launch. The rocket was carrying the AEHF-6 satellite into orbit, which is a military communication satellite that serves under several nations. While this was the final AEHF mission, it was also the first for the newly-formed United States Space Force.

At the High Heel Race a woman stopped me for a picture and I fell into one of my usual poses and she said, "No, I want to get one that shows that booty!" (Which was fun because nobody else asked for that all night!) So I spun around and gave her a little over the shoulder look and she gave me a tentative, "Yeah..."
Then I looked at her and said, "Ohh, *I* know the pose you want. You want the spread-legs, butt-AND-boobs pose with the vacant bimbo expression, right?" Her face lit up so I tried something like this. I've no idea how that photo turned out for her, but I made sure to get a picture of that pose to share here and tell the story! :)

Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL. – This afternoon, June 17, 2021, SpaceX launched the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) III-5 Mission. The previously flown Falcon 9 booster roared to life at 12:09 PM EDT from launch complex 40. The GPS III-5 was built by Lockheed Martin for both military and civilian uses was placed into orbit and shortly after launch, the first stage made a successful landing on the recovery ship “Just Read the Instructions”.

Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL. – This afternoon, June 17, 2021, SpaceX launched the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) III-5 Mission. The previously flown Falcon 9 booster roared to life at 12:09 PM EDT from launch complex 40. The GPS III-5 was built by Lockheed Martin for both military and civilian uses was placed into orbit and shortly after launch, the first stage made a successful landing on the recovery ship “Just Read the Instructions”.
