Lower East Side, August 2002

Just at the spark of my fascination with Space Invaders, I found this dude's shirt at work yesterday, and unfortunately had to give into giving the company back a little bit of my wages. It's almost Space Invader-ie.

Not entirely sure, but I think this is the one on the corner of Rue Bémont and Rue de la Tour de Boël.

I remember when I first saw it I was looking up a flight of stairs towards a building-lined street that was higher than where I was. It took me a few moments to recognize what I was looking at, and I was delighted when it dawned on me.

I wasn't look for them, but I chanced upon these mosaic space invaders in Geneva, Lyon and Paris. I had heard about them before, but only now do I know they are an art installation by a Paris artist who has put them up in cities around the world. According to Wikipedia, "in Montpellier, the locations of mosaics were chosen so that, when placed on a map, they form an image of a space invader character."

Due to their resemblance to the creatures from the old school game, as a child, I really thought these were aliens. No one ever told me they weren't.
